Where they say that God gave some of his strongest saints mental handicappes because Satan said that he was going to get them so God gave them those handicappes as protection from the devil? Well I was just wondering if God cares so much about protecting his children from the devil then why didn't he give people who became serial killers or dictators those handicapps? If God Knows everything then surley he would have known that those people would need some BIG TIME protection from the devils influence! I'm confused so does he like only care about protecting SOME of his children or huh?

Just because the weight of millennia of evidence indicates that ghawd is a stone cold doofus, doesn't mean that he is.

Although the Bell Shaped Curve does point to the fact that there must needs be ghawds on the shitty end of the scale...

Ahh but he *did*.

You may think you've seen some bad dictators and serial killers, but that's because we don't know the absolute bloodbath that Anne de Gaulle would have brought about had she had all her faculties.

I've always thought that people generally chose how much s*** they are born into. But of course when we were signing it wasn't really explained and didn't make any sense.

Kinda like when an 18 year old signs up for 7 years of art history degree at Cambridge/Burkley/Harvard all on Sally-Mays credit card. They wake up when they are 30 and say wtf! ha ha!

As the mother of kids with cognitive disabilities, I hate that teaching! It's so demeaning. It's implied that you should forget their struggles because this life is so short they get to go to the celestial kingdom. It's ridiculous way to "reward" a person. Give them the inability to do the simplest tasks. Who cares? They get to live with Jesus!

Abby I completely agree with you I have a cognitive disability myself and have friends with disabilities and its caused me and my friends lives to be so much harder then they ever needed to be and then my tbm family members go on about how people are givin these disibilities for "protection" and have the nerve to sit and preach to me that I should be so grateful for my challenges that they are "a gift from God" and that someday people without the challenges that I have will be SUPER jealous of me. Barf! They make me sick! I even asked them to please not talk to me like that. That it made me feel bad and that I don't appriciate them talking to me like that and they just smiled and ignored me and kept on going on and on about how blessed I am!

Made me so mad! Makes me wonder if they actually enjoy making me feel bad seeing as I told them to please stop that it made me feel bad and didn't hide my emotions about the subject at all. And one relitive was like I know some things that happen in this life may SEEM cruel but there really not and someday we will find out what they were all about and it will be "beautiful" hmmm well I'm pretty sure they wouldn't find it so beautiful if THEY were the ones with the disability. Another one I love is "your disability actually isn't really YOUR trial but a trial for everyone else to see how they will treat you" now THAT just plain pisses me off! Idk how they can believe that bull! Your right it IS a demeaning teaching they seriously need to cut it out!

I think in some ways it is intended to comfort parents who think their child may not have the facility to fully understand or accept the gospel. They also won't need to be baptized, andthey won't get the Priesthood or go to the temple. Without any of these ordinances they won't be in the CK.

The same would apply to parents whose children die at birth. The child has been super valiant in the PreMortal life, and just needed a body to be resurrected with.

Also parent who wonder why a child needs to be born with such physical deformity or disease that robs them of a normal existence; the child agreed to take that body knowing that it was worth it just to have a body so that they get to be in the CK.

I don't think it's a bad thing if it gives parents hope. Of course it has its down sides as well, as so aptly mentioned.

But one advantage is that non-mormon parents have a harder time trying to figure out why God would do such a thing to a child. For some christians, if the child is unable to proclaim Jesus, hell awaits her or his innocent little soul. And of the two, I'd prefer the mormon idea that mentally or physically handicapped children are exempt from damnation just as much as children who die before the age of accountability.

The actual quote, per what I heard was ----- "God gave those 'valiant in the War in the Pre-existance ----- that escorted Satan and his followers' out of the presence of God because Satan swore he would get even with them on Earth."

In those days we were taught that being physically and intellectually perfect meant we were valiant in the preexistence. Those with disabilities had to suffer and overcome to gain equal favor of the Lord. We were to be nice to such people but we also were told to feel grateful for our valiant efforts and the fact that we had no disabilities.

My sister had a baby with physical and mental challenges and decided it was because the child was more valiant and could rest on her laurels in life. That was quite a pivot.

It seems to suggest a special kind of self-absorbed person. I sometimes think that Mormons are simply people who have to be right always.

It has never ceased to amaze me how Mormons quickly change their beliefs when they are personally affected. For example, I know of several "out of wedlock" pregnancies which became fully acceptable when the couple was later married in the temple and "the child conceived in sin" was sealed to them. Yesterday's sin is today's blessing.

Yadda, yadda, yadda!
