I have a nephew who served in Manila and then Cavite, and he talked about the white God syndrome.

Being white is prestigious and sought after. Filipinos would love to marry a handsome expat and escape a life of poverty.

I have seen the same thing in Cebu with white missionaries. The native Filipino mishies are treated as kababayans, locals.

How can mishies fight off some of these really hot Filipinas.

Has anyone else seen this phenomenon?

The phenomenon is likely to happen in any *brown* country. It sure happened in my mission country, Mexico.

My Filipina wife of 25 years would tell you that she didn't marry me because I was white and delightsome. Or to escape a life of poverty (her family was quite well off in the PI).
She will, however, freely admit that Filipinas consider us "puti" guys guwapo (handsome), and that the rumor among Filipinas is that we don't cheat on our wives (hah!), and that we're well-endowed, both of which are traits as appealing as escaping a life of poverty.

She vehemently denies that any Filipinas consider white guys "god" in any way, shape, or form. And it's not a Catholic "Jesus was white" transference thing, as Filipinos have mostly made Jesus look Filipino.

As for really hot Filipinas...yep. :)

Kababayan!!!
Asa ka karoon.

Ang asking asawa, my wife is a college grad and comes from an upper middle class family.

But I have seen the white God syndrome in the rural poor. Mahirap ang Bihar, life is hard
