In a thread I started a day or so ago about fences around LDS churches
( http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1896069 ),
Nevermo4 posted this (thanks):

So, I watched the video, and that is indeed the place. I too would
need to be fenced in to listen to the likes of that guy.

He reminds me of Warren Jeffs in so many ways, minimal vocal
inflection/intonation, dull facial expression, etc. It's over-the-top
creepy (imo). I've thought that this "style" was peculiar to the FLDS.

Is that normal for LDS folks? "Leaders"?

Jeez...that was really weird. He's so submissive and zero'ed out.

I'm trying to imagine how this man functions in the real world. How does he earn a living? It's competitive out there and he signals that he's incapable of doing anything. I'm somewhat surprised he's able to breathe on his own.

Everything about his affect telegraphs that he's not even at beta male level. I don't think men have to be macho and manly, but he's taken submission to a whole new level. He doesn't even act like he could be part of a partnership.

That was creepy, especially the way his wife is just stood at his side, and when she eventually did say something it seemed almost like an afterthought that they'd better let her say something......

That is an excellent example of the Mormon Leadership Cadence: soft, indicating spirituality, gentle, as if the Holy Ghost is speaking through them.
Very common in the LDS Church. We used to call it the GA (General Authority) Drone!

Religious leaders in other religions have their own style of preaching and sometimes singing. A good Baptist church meeting will likely have a lot of vocal crescendos and amens from the audience, and some waving of the hands. We used to call some of them "holy rollers" as they were so demonstrative and often fainted in the isles.

Interesting. Five of us creeped out by it, but one observation that it's an example of the Mormon Leadership Cadence. Is that something that they turn on and off? As observed above, I don't think someone could function in normal society and speak like that. I HAVE heard it before, but from FLDS types. I don't think I've heard examples that dramatic before. And it's definitely creepy.

If you listen to General Conference, for instance, you will hear what is called the G.A. Drone -- or the cadence used in the video that was listed.

You've never listened to the old Duane Brown TV commercials in Salt Lake ?
Same voice.

Yes, they turn it on and off at will. My job is caring for an elderly mormon lady. I sometimes read mormon stuff to her. Realized I was using my mormon drone. Weird

I find this preaching style to be more effective:

OMG, those are hilarious (thanks). My brother sent me links to some of these "Robert Tilton" (farting) videos years ago. They bring tears to my eyes and memories of my brother too.

Robert Tilton ... yet another religious huck$ter. He might have given Joseph's Myth a run for his money had they been contemporaries.

I have a co-worker who is a mental health therapist who has this cadence on sterioids. Extra submissive and extra "gentle." Most of his clients ask to switch to someone different. Unless they are incarcerated and have no other choice.

Why does it feel so "molest-ey" to me? Is it just association? Is it because of years of being in the church and having this super-controlled voice being the source of all types of abuse?

Anyhow, it is super-triggering for me. I try to stay away from him as much as I can.

It's definitely an affected style to make the man seem less threatening. Funny how it actually makes that man more suspect, not less.

Definitely affected to come across as holy and spiritual...but instead it just seem super, super creepy.

He sounds just like a brainwashed morgbot is supposed to sound.

He's one of the LDS church's "success" stories. Only why does it appear he is at war with himself?

Just another talking head for the army of Helaman.
