I graduated from BYU. I don't believe in Mormonism anymore, but I am still listed as a member in the Church records. Can I go to BYU again, or not? If I started going to Church and paying tithing just to be able to go to BYU, would that work? Would I be able to go if I told my bishop I did not believe? Or would I have to lie and say I do believe?

Suppose I left the Church because I don't believe. Would I still be able to go to BYU? What if I joined another church? Would they look at me as a person from another faith, or as an ExMormon? Does leaving the Church forever bar you from attending BYU, even graduate school? Are you worse off than somebody who was never a member, who can still go to BYU? Or do they group you and all other nonmembers in the same category?

Telling them that you believe is a very small lie in the grand scheme of Mormonism. It's all role play. If you're okay with using a church that uses the hell out of its members, you can maintain that eclesiastical endorsement and get the 10% discount.

Don't worry about the gift of discernment. It only works in the movies, like Jedi mind tricks.

If you were never LDS then you can go to BYU. IF you were LDS before and are either excommunicated or tell them you don't believe in it anymore, then they will not admit you or will kick you out. There's a whole movement against it you should look up, but I don't remember what it's called.

Non-members pay a higher tuition than do members to attend.

Why would you even want to resume studies there if you no longer believe?

There are many other good schools, most of them a cut above BYU, who would love to have you. Consider state universities where you can get in-state tuition if you're a resident, for starters.

BYU would be a drain of your life energy, knowing the church is a sham. Go where you can get the most back for your investment. Go where you'll feel like you're a part of the student body and have the full privileges of college and campus life.

College is in itself a life changing and mind expanding event, if you are truly there for an education. Otherwise you'll be spinning your wheels in the mud of a campus such as BYU, just trying to navigate the shark infested waters of the holier than thous.

If you want to go back to BYU, you will need to play the game -- church attendance, callings, tithing, and successful bishop interviews that profess belief. Your bishop is the one who will sign your endorsement for BYU.

If you resign, are exed, profess disbelief, or otherwise do not play the game, you will NOT be allowed to enroll.

People who resign from the church are not treated like nonmembers at BYU. They are completely barred from enrolling.

The last time I checked, the U of U wasn't *that* much more expensive than BYU. My advice would be to go to a state school that will treat you like the grownup that you are.

The endorsement questions are below. If an applicant does not attend church, then they cannot get the endorsement. And, obviously, if an applicant has to lie, they may get the endorsement if a bishop takes them at their word, but at considerable cost of personal integrity.

1) If LDS, is this applicant's Church membership record in your unit? Applicants may only be endorsed by their bishop of record. If member les than 6 months, please contact the former bishop

2) I have thoroughly reviewed the Dress & Grooming Standards with the applicant, and the applicant agrees to abide by them.

3) Does the applicant understand the Residential Living Guidelines and how they apply to them?

4) Does the applicant live a chaste and virtuous life, including avoidance of pornography, abstinence from sexual relations outside of marriage, and abstinence from homosexual conduct?

5) Does the applicant live the Word of Wisdom by abstaining from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, coffee, tea, and drug abuse? (Or does the non-LDS applicant agree to live the Word of Wisdom as a condition of attendance?)

6) If LDS, does the applicant demonstrate appropriate and consistent Church activity, including doing his or her duty in the Church and abiding by the rules and standards of the Church?

7) Is the applicant honest and does he or she understand the Academic Honesty Policy?

8) If LDS, is the applicant currently in full fellowship, (without disfellowshipment or excommunication from, or voluntary disaffiliation from the Church of jJsus Christ of Latter-day Saints) or probationary status?

9) Does the applicant understand that it is their obligation to live all aspects of the Honor Code, both on and off campus and between semesters while a matriculated student?

10) I have thoroughly reviewed the Honor Code with the applicant, and the applicant agrees to abide by these standards. You can find the ecclesiastic endorsement paper at
