No, Ganesha is god. And Shiva. And Laxmi. A billion Hindus can't be wrong.
I too can make bold declarations with zero evidence to back them up. And there really are roughly a billion people who would agree that I listed a few of the principal gods of the universe.
The strongest predictor of what religion one accepts as true is the religion of the parents and community.
Zero gods per universe, but a chance at enlightenment - Buddhism One god per universe - Islam One god per universe, which is really a Triple Play package deal - Christianity One god per planet (though said god may have more than one planet on his (always "his") downline) - Mormonism One god per village or even family - Hinduism
Which is "true", and why? I always thought Ganesha was kind of cool with his elephant head, and having four arms and hands would make dealing with a drink and plate of snacks at a cocktail party soooo much more convenient.

Using the scientific method to look into Joseph Smith's Mormonism Church, I discovered it was a fraud just as its founder was a fraud. Faith, Heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost were also on shallow ground with me as they had been part of the same package as the Mormon cult. So, I looked into the pros and cons of these as well.
The journey was a fascinating and enlightening one, taking me to the bend in the road in which I could find no proof for a Heavenly Father, Jesus or the Holy Ghost. I found also that 'faith. is believing in something which has no proof, not something I care to do as I choose, instead, to live in a world based on reality.
So, no, I do not choose to take the road in life of "just having faith in Jesus" as an end-all, cure-all as my searching for facts to back up the story of Jesus being a divine being has come up cold.

What field of human knowledge, of the staggering multitude of fields, has remained essentially unchanged since the Middle Ages? Science? Medicine? Law? Agriculture? I can only think of one: religion.
Sometimes I think that Jesus is whatever an individual wants Him to be.
There is no consensus on what Jesus is. A caring savior? A wrathful Old Testament God? An Islamic prophet? A false god? A myth? A swearword to say when you stub your toe and it hurts real bad?
