From, the History Channel ... some quirky and bizarre things you may not have known about the Mormons! Some highlights:

Interesting to note the Mormons were instrumental in partnering with the mob to create Sin City (Las Vegas,) NV. Mormon banks financed the casinos starting out, during a time the mobsters weren't able to get legal funding elsewhere. And the Mormons made out like bandits themselves, cashing in on the millions the industry brought to the region, including from tithes.

Another that Utah was a slave territory under Brigham Young. Which was one of the reasons why President Buchanan sent in troops in 1857 when he did, to subdue the Mormons.

Another: Local Mormon leaders owned brothels in Salt Lake City to entrap government officials cracking down on polygamists. That would be like the pot calling the kettle black LOLOL. The Mormon scheme failed. And President Woodruff thusly by 1890 received the "revelation" that polygamy was alas, morally wrong (with his fingers crossed behind his back.)

I was in West Yellowstone last year, and stumbled across a largish LDS ward building in what is a fairly small town. I asked one of the locals about it, and he said that Mormons owned quite a few of the businesses in town. Rexburg, St Anthony, Ashton, and Island Park, ID are the nearest neighboring towns, and all are pretty Mo.

the ward house is not the standard Mormon design. Looks like the building used to be a school or library or something like that. Still, I was surprised to see a ward at all. The town is about 8 blocks by 8 blocks in size, and not SLC size blocks either.

Anyway, yet another town I didn't realize had Mormon fingerprints on it. Lovell, WY, OTOH, just drips Mormonism. Huge stake center on the main highway.

All that area was settled by early Mormon pioneers. They still are a majority of what makes up the tiny population there in places like that dotting the Northwest.

Many of my cousins are scattered throughout that region. Whenever we have family reunions I'm constantly amazed at how all over the map our Mormon pioneer roots have spread.

meme that says they don't worship JS and so on. I have a canned response that I use when I see it, but this link looks way more fun!

Speaking of pioneers, my spouse, Drdad, descends from the Martin Handcart company and is a first cousin, twice removed to the current mormon profit. Such a royal lineage!

Sounds worth watching! Between RFM, sleeping, life, (dis)appointments, love [right!], research, writing projects, editing, shiFting, ... and chores, where might I find the time? Might have to make it!

They probably left out the other 991 on account of space and time... or embarrassment, and $.

Yeah, but this is a documentary (sort of,) made by a historian for the History Channel. It's brief, and gets the message across for anyone remotely interested including new investigators, or old sages such as yourself.

Should be 1000 things the mormons don't want you to know...right away.
