One time I was playing a role playing game(not the table top kind the video game kind). I had just accomplished a feat in the story in which your character joined the "High Council".
My mother happened to be walking nearby when I exclaimed I was on the "High Council". This apparently rubbed her the wrong way so she had to run in and scream at me "NO YOU'RE NOT!" She then preceded to very shortly begin to berate me for blasphemy when I pointed to the screen and showed her the event still in progress.
She immediately calmed down in a scary fast way and walked out. Now though I release "Blasphemy" subtly all the time. You can see it pisses her off but she keeps her mouth shut because I'm an adult now.

Heck, the only thing they are really known for is VERY boring talks on the 3rd Sunday of the month -- a far cry from gawdhood.

Blasphemy is a victimless crime.
Or maybe a crimeless AND victimless crime...?

Long live blasphemy!

Blasphemy is the act or offense of speaking logically about God or sacred things.

I played this game in high school but kept a lot of the details about it from my parents. Didn't seem like any big deal to me buy I knew they might object if they got to know too much about it.

When I was six and my brother was about 12, he bought Duke Nukem 3D for our brand-spanking-new Gateway 2000 computer with Windows 95 and 16 megabytes of RAM. I remember playing it extensively. There is a feature in the game, where Duke walks up to a stripper and you hit the spacebar,he will say 'shake it baby' or 'wanna dance' and the animated strippers will flash their breasts. Also, if you destroyed the strippers, they would explode and turn into aliens.

I wasn't really aware of what I was doing since I was only six years old. I think I was aware that the game was violent, and that other people considered it violent, but I was too young to make any kind of moral judgment about it, you know? It's only been in the past few years that I realized I was playing the game as a 6 year old that could have very easily desensitized me to violence and nudity, since I didn't realize that at the time the game was considered one of the most graphic games on the market.

What's funny is that I played this in the front living room of our house, usually with the volume on, and my parents never caught wind of the violence or any of the issues with the game. If they knew about it, they would have probably immediately banned my brother and I from ever getting on the computer without adult supervision again. It's funny what the intervening years did to my parents and to mormonism's attitudes towards computer use, because this kind of predated the whole freaking out about pornography on the internet thing, and all the other issues people have with computers and the internet.

Don't worry though, because my parents have made it up to me by taking issue with dozens of computer related things both me and my brother have done, although my brother managed to turn out to become a good Mormon. he went on a mission, married in the temple, had 3 kids, and now is in medical school...

My mother knew nothing about the game really but it went beyond games. Any mention of making jokes about the bible or people in the bible irritates her. Even the harmless ones that are meant in good fun. One time I made a harmless joke about the exodus story that was if anything a positive thing about it, my mother immediately met it with calls of my needing repentance.
Speaking of high councilors though the only one I ever really spoke to was very similar to my mom. He was lecturing me one time in an institute I went to(and then skipped all but the last 5 minutes even as a tbm I knew that was boring.) I brought up a point to make myself look a little less evil at the last 5 minutes about Jewish beliefs or something.
Apparently it went against what he had just said(incorrectly) before I came in. He then after class preceded to give me a short lecture on jewish history(inaccurate). After he finished that he decided to continue lecturing me about the importance of institute. When I chuckled at something he said(trust me he wasn't funny I was remembering something he reminded me of) he then immediately called me to repentance as a high councilor or something I told him to [curse word censored as I didn't put a warning in the title] off. To which his mouth dropped open and I walked out into the parking lot waiting for my carpool ride.
