I was excited to get *back* to 40 degrees after spending most of last week in Provo.

We are under a WSW as well, but it's mostly for the people living at altitudes of 6500 and up, like Silverton.

Either way, I sure am glad I decided to purchase multiple packages of fleece lined tights/leggings and more wool socks this winter.

Well, everyone within about 100 miles of the Utah Idaho border are in a winter storm warning until tomorrow sometime. Good time to limit travel as much as possible until Friday.

Finally, looks like we are going to have a wetter than average winter

I was in Shelby, Cut Bank, and Browning last night in the middle of that mess. Miserably cold.

"I live near the Equator.

"Go ahead, hate me. I'm used to it."

I did my mission in tropical Queensland, Australia. I had my share of insufferably hot Decembers and Januarys there. Some mornings, we'd go out to knock on doors about 9:30, and we'd be sweating through our shirts after walking a couple of blocks. Sometimes we'd come home and shower in the middle of the day and go back out.

Those of us in California are getting a lot of rain, and it's possible the Grapevine might be closed again due to snow. If you don't know what that is, it's the mountain pass between LA and the Central Valley, which the 5 (I-5) runs through. If it's bad enough the Cajon pass could close as well, which impacts traffic between LA and Vegas.

0 F with a windchill of -19 F at the moment. Going to reach a balmy 3 later today. -5 overnight tonight. Normal weather for MN in January.

Might snow next week. Then again it was supposed to snow on Monday and we got freezing rain. Would rather it snowed, so much easier to get around.

We're supposed to get a flurry on Thursday night/Friday morning here in Dixie, and the high on Friday might not make it up to freezing (I remember going 30+ days in Utah where that was the case--we're only talking one day here). People are already flooding the stores for their milk, bread and beer. And there might be an eighth of an inch of snow or ice on the roads Friday morning. Whatever will we do? I don't even have a sled, let alone a dog team.

Here in BHM, Alabama, a bunch of schools will be closed and multiple co-workers "don't dare" try to drive to work tomorrow because it might snow. We'll see how it goes.

I've been chuckling all day at the rush there is to go buy bread and milk. It might be slippery for 3 hours! We might starve!

I might be seeing some Friday night into Saturday from a low pressure system of the coast that is going to come in after a cold front comes through on Thursday. Where this thing tracks is going to determine on who gets what and how much.

Central Texas is so freaking cold tonight. It is 39 degrees tonight. Had to turn the fireplace on to keep warm. Actually turn the fireplace on because I like to push the on button on the remote control and watch the flames appear out of nowhere. The high tomorrow is only going to be 65 degrees.

Yes, there is one here for tomorrow night going into Saturday morning.

Although we are just on the edge of the area under threat, they are calling for 2-4 inches of snow here. It will be the first of the season except for some flurries this past Sunday.

Norfolk is supposed to hit the mother lode with upwards of a foot. And I think eastern North Carolina is supposed to be slammed as well which is very unusual.

We live on the line of humid subtropical and humid continental so they're continually predicting killer snowstorms only to wipe their brows and proclaim "whew, dodged that bullet" like it's a good thing they got it wrong.

As a school teacher always hoping for a day off, I do not appreciate their feeble attempts to deflect angry accusations when they're wrong.

Hmmm...

Winter Storm Watch issued January 06 at 3:32AM MST until January 09 at 5:00AM MST by NWS Pocatello
Caribou Highlands; South Central Highlands
...MAJOR WINTER STORM EXPECTED TO ARRIVE AS EARLY AS SATURDAY
AFTERNOON...
.A STORM MOVING IN FROM THE PACIFIC OCEAN WILL CONTAIN ENOUGH WARM
AND MOIST AIR TO PRODUCE SOME HEAVY SNOW, A PERIOD OF FREEZING
RAIN, AND AN ICY RAIN AND SNOW MIXTURE AT LOW ELEVATIONS BY SUNDAY
AFTERNOON. THERE SHOULD BE A SLOW START SATURDAY AFTERNOON, MAINLY
AFFECTING THE WOOD RIVER BASIN AND THE SAWTOOTH RANGE. BY SATURDAY
NIGHT, A LIGHT SNOW WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE REST OF CENTRAL AND
EASTERN IDAHO. WITH THE EXTREMELY COLD AIR CURRENTLY AT THE
SURFACE IN THE SNAKE RIVER PLAIN AND THE VALLEYS TO THE SOUTH OF
THE SNAKE RIVER THAT DRAIN INTO THE SNAKE, THE INITIAL PUSH OF
VERY WARM AIR MAY CREATE A WARM LAYER OF AIR OVER THE EXTREMELY
CHILLY AIR AT THE SURFACE. THIS WILL MEAN THE PRECIPITATION CAN
MELT IN THE WARM LAYER AS IT FALLS, AND THEN RE-FREEZE AS IT
ENTERS THE COLD LAYER AT THE SURFACE. THIS CAN MEAN ICE BUILDING
UP ON ROAD AND SIDEWALK SURFACES IN A FREEZING RAIN SITUATION.
FREEZING RAIN IS AN EXTREME HAZARD, NOT SEEN VERY OFTEN IN THIS
PART OF THE COUNTRY. SNOWFALL IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS, ABOVE 7000
FEET, WILL BE ON THE ORDER OF 10 INCHES IN THE SOUTHERN AND
EASTERN HIGHLANDS, TO 1 TO 2 FEET IN THE CENTRAL IDAHO MOUNTAINS.
IN THE SNAKE RIVER PLAIN, 2 TO 7 INCHES ARE EXPECTED, WITH THE
HEAVIER AMOUNTS ON THE NORTHWEST SIDE OF THE SNAKE RIVER PLAIN AND
NORTHERN HALF OF THE MAGIC VALLEY.
...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
LATE SUNDAY NIGHT...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN POCATELLO HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WATCH, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.
* IMPACTS...LIGHT SNOW MAY, AT ELEVATIONS BELOW 7000 FEET, CHANGE
TO FREEZING RAIN SATURDAY NIGHT, MAKING DRIVING CONDITIONS
EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. HEAVY SNOW SUNDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT MAY
ACCUMULATE FAST ENOUGH TO OVERCOME SNOW REMOVAL EFFORTS,
ESPECIALLY FOR THE SMALL TOWNS AND RURAL ROADS.
* TIMING...LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO START LATE SATURDAY
AFTERNOON, WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE THAT THE SNOW WILL CHANGE TO
FREEZING RAIN LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AT ELEVATIONS BELOW 7000 FEET.
LOWER ELEVATIONS WILL SEE MAINLY RAIN, OR RAIN AND SNOW, FOR
SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT, WHILE ELEVATIONS ABOVE 7000 FEET WILL
EXPERIENCE MAINLY SNOW.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...LOWER ELEVATIONS MAY EXPERIENCE 2 TO 9
INCHES, WITH LOWEST AMOUNTS IN THE GOOSE CREEK DRAINAGE, WITH
THE HIGHER AMOUNTS IN THE CARIBOU HIGHLANDS. THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS WILL SEE 10 TO 24 INCHES OF SNOW DURING THIS TIME,
MOST OF IT ON SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.
* CONFIDENCE...MODERATE CONFIDENCE ON SNOWFALL AMOUNTS, LOW
CONFIDENCE ON OCCURRENCE OF FREEZING RAIN, AND HIGH CONFIDENCE
ON SNOW CHANGING TO RAIN AT LOW ELEVATIONS ON SUNDAY.
* LOCATIONS...THE SOUTH CENTRAL AND CARIBOU HIGHLANDS.

I'm in Richmond. Somehow we're supposed to get 4-8. I was about to go out for some salt and a new snow shovel but the flurries have already started and I'm sure the shelves will be picked clean.

I guess it's another year with the coal shovel which will mean I'll be hunched over into next week.

It's ok. I'm going to have to get out of the house or go nuts anyway.

That's a lot for Richmond!

I learned early on that if I don't buy a snow shovel ahead of the season, the shelves will be bare once I actually need one. You might put it on your calendar to buy one in the fall. I keep two in case one breaks (which I've seen happen.)

All of our mountain passes have been closed today. You don't really think about it until you go to the grocery store for produce and the shelves are nearly picked over.

I hope others prepared better and all I can say is I'm glad I usually have a week or two worth of fresh goods on hand.

The weather here in the south is so bad that they have actually had to cancel the Mississippi Blues marathon and half marathon, originally scheduled for this weekend.

We have runners from across the nation having booked hotel rooms and air flights to come down to Mississippi to run this very popular marathon. I think there is something like 20,000 or 25,000 runners scheduled to run one of the races in this series.

So cancellation is a HUGE issue!

Its hurting alot of people.

Another southern Mississippi winter (tornado) storm. Otherwise, it's in the 60s-70s-80s. These things are sick, and twisted. Another close call. Storm warning again tonight.

We are having a Winter Storm Warning here in Stayton, Oregon (Just east of Salem). Freezing rain is falling as we speak. I will probably be housebound for the next 2 days. I don't know if I will be going in to work on Monday (school teacher) as our building is at the mouth of the canyon and it can get pretty nasty up there, even thougsh it is only 7 miles from my house. I personally like these kind of days because it gives me an excuse to make a fire, a hot cup of coffee, snuggle down with a good book and sit and watch the river from the back window.

I hope all those with worse conditions remain safe and warm; I know there are much colder and wetter conditions than what we are having here. Stay safe my friends.

Winter Storm will bring significant impacts across much of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington this weekend.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 4 PM PST Sunday for the central Willamette Valley including the Salem metro area.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow and ice remains in effect until 4 PM PST Sunday.

Timing: a brief period of snow and sleet this morning will change to freezing rain this afternoon. Freezing rain will continue through Sunday morning, then change to rain Sunday afternoon.
Snow accumulation: up to 2 inches.
Ice accumulation, up to to one half of an inch, heaviest west of Interstate 5.
Impacts: The combination of ice and snow will likely bring down some trees and power lines, leading to power disruptions in some areas. Travel will become difficult as ice and snow are expected to make untreated roads very slick.

I am still waiting for it to snow here where I live. This is a common occurance where I live. The cut off live is about 5-10 miles away and a lot of the reason's why it is so hard to get snow where I live is because there is a 5 degree temperature difference between the beach and the inland areas.

between Monday and Wednesday here in Cache Valley, Utah. It has been 22 to 24 degrees below zero for a few mornings. Our daily highs have been around 9 to 11 degrees. We had an unprecedented 2 snow days off for school kids this week.

The water went off on Thursday because a neighbor's pipes burst. The power was out Saturday morning for a while. I can't get my sliding glass doors open as they are frozen shut and the dogs aren't sure just what to do about having to go into the garage and out back. I have to watch them because their feet get cold and they fall down, so I follow them. Try retraining them after this. I just took one of them out and that is why I'm up at 4 a.m. It is now 16 degrees outside. Balmy.

I'm concerned about my roof, though my ex says it will be fine, as does my boyfriend, though my ex did take some snow off the roof. Many neighbors were shoveling roofs yesterday. Supposedly we are going to be into the mid 30s today and will get an ice storm. I'm hoping otherwise. It might be me on the roof today shoveling.
