Well, not really. But it could happen.

And lots of them would do it, too, which is the sad part--the toe they can live without, but self-respect is a terrible thing to give up voluntarily.

Wait! You mean I didn't HAVE to do that?

All these years and I could have been counting to twenty so much faster.....I never get past 19 since the mission.

It's just a prelude -- later they have to cut off that extra "foot or two" they grew to go on a mission.

I'm sensing a fair amount of sarcasm here re: LDS micro-management...

Pls don't bother telling me I'm wrong, OK?

I have met a RM who lost his big toe on his mission. He was in Argentina and his crazy companion pushed him in front of a train. He bounced off the train and fell down and his hand landed on the electrified rail. It melted his thumb off.

The resulting traffic jam in Buenos Aries landed his companion in jail where he was killed or committed suicide. That part of the story is unclear to me.

This missionary underwent surgeries to remove his big toe and put it in place of his missing thumb.

His crazy companion had previously told his MP that he wanted out and his pleas were ignored. That is the spirit-of-inspiration in action!

They do, however, have to hand over their frontal lobes.

This is the name of the token--"I, Elder BYU Boner, do solemnly covenant and promise that rather than reveal my true intentions of converting people to Mormonism, I would suffer my right big toe to be taken."

The execution of the penalty is made by extending the thumb on the right hand and drawing it swiftly perpendicular across the big toe.

Is circumcision any less crazy when you think about it?

Wake me when you get to the "eunuch as a sign of faith" part.
