I have already created a thread on Monson speaking last night.

The next speaker was Bednar. This guy is scary. He talked about mission calls and mission assignments.
1) All mission calls are signed by the President. It leaves the impression that Monson signs them individually.
2) First sentence of letter is called to serve. That is what missionary work is about. It does not matter where you are assigned, you are called to serve. He spent a lot of time explaining that sometimes things don't work out due to health issues, visa, etc and the person is reassigned. It does not matter as you are called to serve. So don't be bothered by that.
3) The call comes through the President who assigns GA's to assign the mission calls through revelation. I got the impression that each name is reviewed and the Lord tells the assigning GA where to sent the person. This same process is followed when reassignment of a missionary is made.
4) He talked about some person JS called to a mission and he explained revelation. It's in the DC somewhere. Vs.1, called to serve. VS. 2, called to labor. VS. 3,it could be north south east or west. It does not matter according to the Lord as long as the work is done. Bednar says we follow the same process today assigning missionaries. I read on another site that this person spoken of in the DC left the Church 6 years years later. I guess Bednar is not up to date on church history.
5)Personal preparedness involves going to temple with limited recommend to do baptism, etc before going on a mission.

There is just something about this guy that seems off. No offence to anyone but that was my impression.

Next speaker was Cuase' the Presiding Bishop. French. So we are very international I guess. His words were about Priesthood, mainly directed to the young men. He wants the Bishops to have the young men take a more active role in helping the Bishop do his duties. Involve the young men in going with Bishops when they give blessings, comfort people, etc. The young men were told their Priesthood is power.

Then Dieter spoke. He talked about being involved with the Spain Temple dedication, planning and not getting an invitation to attend the dedication. He spent a lot of time explaining how he and his wife worried about it and still no invitation. Then they decided it was okay not to have one because it's about dedicating a temple to the Lord. He never said if he got one or not. I am calling Dieter on this one. A person of his statue would make a phone call. You don't get to be a person like him without knowing the ropes. So we are left with the impression he did not attend.
He spent a lot of time talking about being called to serve and we should do it so we can grow. No calling is more important than another. He talked about serving others no matter who they are. Used a lot of examples from the bible. I do not believe Dieter wrote this talk. It had too much of a bible story, application to real life. Something you would learn at a Christian seminary. I could be wrong maybe he is a bible scholar.

Last was Eyeing. Lots and lots of tears. This guy was an emotional wreck just feeling the spirit. It was a great talk from the heart. He talked about using the Priesthood in the home. Having faith to move mountains with it. Walk with the Lord. Act for the Lord. I got the impression this was also not fully written by him. He had some Bible stuff in that is not what we in the Church would have been taught. It was true what he said but the context was not quite LDS.

Well the music was great. That is why I go to the Priesthood session. The music uplifts me.

Yes. I knew him many years ago. At the time I considered him to be a very dedicated man with a good vision of what he felt was right and his personal integrity to follow that vision. I know it's very popular to bash him, and I can understand why people do so. But, I still believe he's a sincere person.

His boys are good guys. That said I find what he says and the vibe he gives off to be downright scary. My guess is that once he really got in charge of something full time (BYUI) that it brought out the worst in him.

I don't doubt his sincerity. In fact that's probably a major
component contributing to his creepiness.

Isn't Dieter the airline pilot?

Maybe he wasn't invited because they feared that Dieter would attempt to land a plane on their lovely temple.

Last time I attended a priesthood broadcast was 16 years ago, a couple of months after my dear dad had died. I was still grieving and thought I might get an uplift from being there. I was mistaken.

The mission stuff is pure bullshit! I know a very prominent SLC businessman who's done a lot of high profile work for the Morg. They called him to be a mission president and gave him a choice as to what mission he wanted to be president over! That's right, no inspiration about it, he got to choose. Personally, I approved of his choice as it a involved a very historically-important place.

Most of us know that the local bishop has a lot of say as to whether or not the mission will be foreign speaking. And, my former stake president used to say that the driving record of the young man also influenced where the call would be.

A more cynical Boner would speculate computers aid in the call, AND a signature machine helps the prophet sign the letters. Hey, I've got the prophet's signature on my BYU diploma, too!

bednar is simply too perfect to be normal but he does represent the absurd with stunning enunciation/clarity! According to now departed, so-called apostle tom perry, bednar/his wife represented the ideal mormon couple! At the time, I had great difficulty keeping the contents of my stomach down! Sadly, his poor wife has regressed physically/emotionally under his general authority tutelage!

Look no further than these two shining examples of what perfect mormons should be/run like hell! Save yourselves/beloved family before you too are afflicted with the bednar, degeneration syndrome! As Always, tnurg (GRUNT)

So, you're saying Bednar talked about things that TBM's have been told repeatedly since they were about 3 years old? And repeated repeatedly as they grow up? And repeated every 6 months at GC.

TBM's must have memory problems.........

My take on Bednar's talk is that there has been grumbling about where missionaries are being assigned. In his dull and droning voice, he made clear that *all* mission assignments are due to divine inspiration - so suck it up, buttercup. Serve without questioning The Brethren.
