I saw an advertisement for the conference on I-15. So this is the group that believes that the events in the Book of Mormon happened in what is now the US rather than down in Central America? I hear they organize tours for people who want to visit "Book of Mormon" sites. I have some neighbors that are really into that.

It is Rod Meldrum and his followers, quite a collection of nutcases.

Well, it will be unless that guy from Calgary breaks down on the highway coming over the pass.

And check out the ad sponsors: every bs product out there!

F.I.R.M. is the Foundation for Indigenous Research and Mormonism

F.A.I.R. is the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research

F.A.R.M.S. was the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies.

I think I'll start the Foundation for Understanding Christian Knowledge.

I'll join you for the last conference. Perhaps there are twofer registration rates. But, no double occupancy. Even I have standards!

I think I'd attend F.U.C.K.

Later, you could expand it to the Foundation for Understanding Christian Knowledge and Eastern Religions.

"I think I'll start the Foundation for Understanding Christian Knowledge."

Please, please, start a university, too!

Because I really want the T-shirt.

My first thought about this meeting was to look for a hotel that offered its rooms with an hourly rate.

That makes sense because those who throw their money away for this conference are getting screwed.

I think someone should attend and then report back to us :)

Someone needs to let Matt Groening that this conference is fodder for a Simpsons episode.

Rod Meldrum forced FAIR to admit that haplotype X is not evidence for Israelites in America (because it's been here since before the Nephites or Jaredites supposedly were). Before that, apologists were content to let people think that haplotype X was evidence for the Book of Mormon.

Meldrum has his list of reasons why the Book of Mormon can't take place in Central America, and FAIR has its list of reasons why it must. The Meldrumites and the FAIRites basically cancel each other out. As far as I'm concerned, Meldrum is doing the Lord's work.

This is apparently an annual event:

Prepare yourselves to be exposed to right-wing extremism to the hilt, from most of the speakers to the collections of guns on display. You're going to think Rod Melodrama is a reasonable-minded guy compared to all the rest of the stuff that happens there.

Their patriot Cliven won't be able to make a presentation this year.

I am actually really grateful to Mr. Meldrum. I remember being fascinated and amazed at the information he presented. This was about seven or eight years ago. The idea that so much history (that supported the BOM) had been destroyed intentionally, and the fact that actual BOM locations had been identified in the D&C just blew me away. I was already questioning church. I wondered why the church would redirect our attention to Central America, when the prophet Joseph Smith had already identified the locations of BOM cities, etc. Isn't faith enough? Guess not, because even the church needed "evidence". The evidence that was supposed to help my testimony actually eroded it away more quickly. Anyway, the conferences are just one big clusterfuck of people trying to prove that something fictional is true, by manipulating actual history and artifacts. My mom and brother are going. They love this kind of stuff.

Speaking of BoM DNA evidence, has Ugo Perego's shelf broken yet?

He seems like a "There are no American tanks in Baghdad" type of of guy.

Thanks for the link to their schedule, michaelm. Some of the topics seem strange or, at least unrelated to BoM evidence:

Emergency Birthing 1: Essentials
Medical Self Reliance
Mental Health Breakthrough
Becoming a Homegrown Herbalist
Herbs to Strengthen your Immune System

These topics by their speakers seem more appropriate for a 'Survivalists Conference'!

Anyone have an idea?

My guess would be that the speakers are also selling something.
So, it will be a collection of infomercials.

I think Comic Con would be more informative and just as factual.
