I told my son that TSCC came out with that blinding flash of the obvious last year.

But, he wants to see it for himself to believe it. I couldn't find it in the essays.

Anyone have that?

I don't know of anything specific, but I found this quote in this article that may lead credence to the notion that the garments are not a protection with the caveat that the wearer is faithful.

"“The garment is inadequate without the thing that it signifies. … It won’t protect you unless you’re true and faithful to your covenant, and only to the degree to which you don’t dishonor your garment has it any significance at all. Only on that condition that you don’t dishonor it, that you’re pure, that you are true and faithful to your covenant—does the garment have any benefit,” wrote Hugh Nibley, an emeritus professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University. 4"

This particular statement is compatible with everything I was ever told while a member regarding the temple garment.

"Question: Do Mormons believe that the temple garment will protect them from physical harm?
The 'protection' of the garment is spiritual, not physical

The First Presidency of the LDS Church has explained in plain terms that the temple garment serves as "a protection against temptation and evil" and instead of it being some type of 'lucky talisman' the "promise of protection [associated with it] is conditioned upon worthiness and faithfulness." (First Presidency Letter, 10 October 1988; see Ensign, August 1997, 19-).

Elder Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has published a similar view about the kind of protection that is provided by the temple garment. He said that it "fosters modesty and becomes a shield and a protection to the wearer. . . . For many Church members the garment has formed a barrier of protection when the wearer has been faced with temptation." [3]

Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Twelve has said -- using symbolic language -- that "we wear the [temple] garment faithfully as part of the enduring armor of God." (Ensign, May 2001, 32-). Spiritual 'armor' is certainly designed to give a person spiritual protection, not to prevent numerous forms of physical harm"

You might be thinking about the garment video released by the church in Oct 2014. Here are a couple of older threads discussing it. Video links included, but I didn't check to see if they were still active.

They may explain that it's "spiritual protection" not physical.
