The church should put their money where their mouth is. Pay NASA to send a satellite to Kolob and take a photograph of God. No better way to prove that the COJCOLDS is true!

Is it a star or a planet?? Clearly Joseph Smith wasn't much of an astronomer. Nor Brigham Young who thought people lived on the moon and sun.

Read your scriptures! Abraham 3 clearly says Kolob is a star, near to the throne of God. It is not the "throne of God" itself. God apparently dwells on a celestial body nearby.

Kolob must really be something. Smith taught Kolob was a translucent leading planet in the universe ("sea of glass")...and apparently our sun get's it's light from there.

I would be satisfied w/ one measly artifact or location of the BOM. Whenever deep doctrines of TSCC are mentioned, especially the cosmos, I hear the echoing of the BOM play, the song, "Mormons Just Believe."

No, it is NOT a "planet." Abraham 3 says it is a star.

Yes, but IfICouldHieToKolob hasn't weighed in yet.

Ouch :)

I chose my handle because of all the above -- how ridiculous "kolob" is. Illustrates the church perfectly. :)

My point was, "yes, it's a somewhat dumb thread," but that will change (improve) once H2K makes his contribution. Goes to show that using sarcasm in a positive sense is very risky.

And yes, inquiring minds want to know if Kolob is a planet, a star, a solar system, or something even larger. My inquiry with the "International Star Registry"* was unsuccessful.

*The guys who let you name a star for someone, and even send you an official certificate! Mine is framed and displayed alongside my Masters degree (M.H., Summa Cum Laud) from the Institute of Higher Humility.

Kaitland, I think that's a capital idea! But, I'm jealous because the people living on the sun and the moon can just see Kolob from where they are standing.

Now Vega is a star that I would want to check out closer.

There was a book I read some 40 years ago entitled 'Science and Mormonism'. A significant portion of that book, far as I can remember, was on the solar accretion model for the sun. That the hydrogen which fuels the sun via nuclear fusion originated from Kolob. I do not believe a single credible astronomer believes in that absurdity. It is a significant though rarely discussed Mormon doctrine.

So, Kaitlyn, obviously NASA can't send a craft to some place that doesn't exist. I guess kolob is just another in a long list of things in Mormonism that are false :)

Eric, Was the book written by a Mormon, by any chance?
