Most people I know worship government. They see it as the solution to all our problems, and the provider of all we need - food, healthcare, education, safety, etc. If we just pay enough for all that free stuff. And like other religions, statists ignore reality - few government programs work as intended, and generally make things worse.

Or if we just go around the world bombing people, we'll be safe. Unfortunately we create more enemies, but it all feels good - you can feel the Spirit when another town gets bombed.

Every president promises jobs and benefits and whatever, and people fall for it.
