How do you/have you dealt with "helpful" friends and family who assume that you must have left the church because you just don't understand the doctrine? The ones who try and explain to you all of the mental gymnastics and interpretations of the doctrine?

Short of asking what kind of idiot they think I am and telling them that I probably know more about the church than they do (because, ya know, that "studying yourself out" thing vs "refuse to read the essays" thing, I'm at a loss.

Note that I mean the friends and family that you want to keep close, not start to distance.
