How many married TBM women, out of 100, do you think would leave their husbands for Monson if he said he had a Joseph Smith-like sign from the Heavens to take some wives?

About 40 TBM's would ditch their hubbies to snuggle with the majestic ear wiggler.

1 is too many.
But it would be more than 1, no question.

Leave? Or simply marry behind their backs... like ole Joe did?

What would happen if the church ordained polygamy again.

Any thoughts?

The Mormons would embrace polygamy. They already believe in polygamy in the afterlife.

The men would love it, and they are in charge. The women would do as their told, like they do now.

Women already send their sons on missions, clean the church toilets, submit to their husband in the temple, are not allowed the priesthood, wear uncomfortable non-sexy underwear every single day and night, give birth as much as possible, and give up 10% of their income, which could be spent on the necessities of life, including children's educations, are not allowed to earn a living, have three thankless church callings, and forced to pretend that making crafts in RS is fun and that "Mormonism is the best way to raise kids."

Why not go one step further, and really LIVE "The New and Everlasting Covenant" that they already agreed to in the temple. No big deal. The thinking has been done.

I asked this of my wife almost 6 years ago. This exact question just prior to my exit.

She said this....."Well I wouldn't like it, but I'd want to be obedient to the prophet".

I said how about being obedient to God?? She argued that she was, and that God's mouthpiece on earth would not ask anything without direction from God.

I have a creepy image of a pretty 20-something woman wearing a pretty white nightie with spaghetti straps. Under that is her garment. She tries to snuggle on a hospital bed that has been cranked (pun intended) into some bizarrely therapeutic angles, trying not to disturb all sorts of tubes, respirators, IV drips and medical appliances. She pulls the plastic oxygen tent around the both of them. She eases some tube to the side of his mouth and kisses him. The plastic padding under the bed sheet rustles and crinkles as she adjusts her weight.

"Darling?" She coos. "What time did you take your Viagra? I'm not, um, sensing anything here..."

As a new convert, I was told about it, with the caveat that since it was now illegal, it is no longer practiced, except in the Celestial Kingdom, which apparently has a law unto itself.

A Mormon family that befriended me and my adolescent son seemed very easygoing and kind, inviting us over, enjoying the desserts or salads that I brought. Son and I enjoyed their company. They seemed like very nice people.

And then I gradually noticed that the husband was trying to make an ever-so-subtle move on me. I said, in a very un-subtle way, "Dude, you're MARRIED." He just grinned and said, "Don't forget, we believe in polygamy." I gave him an ice-cold glare and said, "I DON'T." His wife was in the kitchen or something. I got up, told her I needed to go home, thanked her for supper, and left.

I felt like crying, on the way home. I genuinely liked this couple, considered them to be good friends, and had to deal with the fact that the husband was trying weasel his way into an extra-marital fling. I felt betrayed and humiliated.

His wife told me a couple of years later that the guy had had affairs. I confessed that he had tried to flirt with me, and that was why I had distanced myself from them. She and I both started crying. I told her that my ex had cheated, blatantly, on me, and that I would NEVER do that to another woman.

Last I knew, they were still together, but she was not happy. Their young daughters, who had been around 10 and 12 when we first became friends, told me as mid-teens that they were disgusted with their father. He was still a p-hood holder in good standing. Yuck.

Polygamy is disgusting.
