I like whales. This story makes me sad.
===========================================

Six Endangered Whales Found Dead This Month in "Unprecedented Event

====

"Canadian government officials and marine biologists are investigating the mysterious deaths of six North American right whales. The endangered animals all turned up dead between June 6 and June 23 in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, off Canada's southeastern coast.

North Atlantic right whales are the rarest of all large whale species and among the rarest of all marine mammal species, with only about 450 right whales in the North Atlantic.

"The loss of one whale has a huge impact for any endangered species, but in particular for the North Atlantic right whale," Sigrid Kuehnemund, the lead ocean specialist with the World Wildlife Fund-Canada, told the Globe and Mail. "Looking at this number of deaths, it will take such a devastating toll on the population. And we know that, of the whales that have been sighted, at least two are females. So, we're not just losing those whales but also the potential for those females to have calves into the future."

The six deaths—accounting for approximately one percent of the population—has been described by Tonya Wimmer, a marine biologist and the director of Marine Animal Response Society, as an "unprecedented event."

"It seems very odd that they would die in this time frame and in the same area," Wimmer told National Geographic. "It's catastrophic."

National Geographic reported that various marine animals in the busy port area around St. Lawrence face a number of threats, from ship strikes to toxic infections. Furthermore, the publication noted:

"A 2013 report found that water contaminants, high levels of noise, decline in prey availability, and global warming all negatively impacted the St. Lawrence beluga population, which shares habitat with right whales. And unlike belugas, the whales feed on zooplankton, which are also highly susceptible to changes in climate."

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Marine Animal Response Society, the Canadian Coast Guard and others are investigating the cause of the deaths and are devising ways to prevent further losses.

Recognize this existing right now of an extinction event of so many species ... when you have many species going extinct then it's an extinction level event. It's not in one canal near one toxic spill or a little colony of birds born on one mountain near one mine leaching toxins. It's happening in biomes or ecosystem niches all over. What do people in sacrament meeting or mass or a preachers speech say to address this? Is it all religious dogma eyes closed quote another scripture ? Is it so frightening that's why they blame science or say science or their god idea? Are they scape goating the science teams messenger because a scientist measured or observed deformed birds at kesterson ca, or now scapegoating the photographer or reporter that acknowledges another episode or event of species struggling

Of end to life as we know it or inhabiltable for our planet?, inhabit ability? Of it?

Does mormon or evangelical Armageddon mean some god being in person has to rescue them by being so intimidating strong and predatory they obey. Is that what their god is? They this Armageddon concerned Mormon or Christian faction, do they not care what happens to life around them, that species have gone extinct in a mass extinction?

How is not loving the planets ecosystem and environment following the admonishing of Christ in the New Testament, were we not asked to love one another? How is sending copd causing smog down wind into a valley of farmers loving one another? How is testing nuclear devices above ground in the last century letting civilians and animals everywhere suffer life long as down winders loving one another? How is sucking the oil or water or gas out from under a town and selling it by pumping it sideways while houses collapse floors crack and holes sink in the ground unpredictability loving one another? How is dropping an extreme organic poison such as corexit /spelling issue /into ocean water to dissipate oil molecules after a spill making it either easier to collect or easier to hide...poisoning voluminous lives of myriad species loving one another?

When are these people going to take action going to define love as beyond the pulpit beyond the book and take a look at our beloved planets inhabitants? Loving one another instead of the old Mormon glued in phrase if you love me love my planet if you lve me love one another.

Instead your u should hear mt brother change the topic oh ---- you know that's not right, you need to (names a commandment) have faith in the lord Yada yada yada . Oh. My. Gawd. But, that's why I'm not living with my brother, and instead, I am married to a forestry major, a hydrology hydrgeochemistry masters ...and my kids are university cal science major graduates. They don't quote scripture at me or sigh whining wishing wistfully for Armageddon instead of healing from illnesses paying bills. At least my non lads family will talk too me seriously about ongoing extinctions of identified species or environmental incidents (when Their few and beloved long awaited children are away at preschool , we meet and speak or long into the night when they're asleep)looking at tables of environmental pollutants contamination amounts updated in fieldwork half confer together all day long even writing technical reports into the night on specific sites with newly established data.

Where is this at church. It should be at least as important as a lesson in gospel doctrine. Why is nobody bringing it up at meetings in the lds church. Why did they make a correlated tiny book of nationally used dogma bits as lessons for adults when the greatest known die off of species in recorded history outside fossils began to occur?

You know what that's another reason being Mormon didn't work for me. It's too surreal

Afraid of extinction events? / so if they get together cleaning toilets and vacuumed the church , they are pacified? Calmed? Comforted? And caring arguing about who has to clean next who went away whose vacuumed cleaner broke , or who broke the wards vacuumed then hide it,

It certainly keeps them preoccupied and they don't appear to think about extinctions or the planets inhabibility in the church
At all.

I'm glad we have you to turn to on this. It's strange that none of the scientists cited were willing to blame Mormons and Evangelicals for these tragic deaths. They weren't even able to say for sure if global warming played any role at all.

That's why it's good we have you to help sort these things out. Are there any other suspicious deaths you can reveal to us as caused by Mormons and Evangelicals, or can we just install these two groups as the default in case another mystery arises?

How about Ontario and Quebec quit dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage in the St. lawence river.

Publicity like this will help drive conservation efforts forward; at least I hope it does...

Incidentally, they were called "right whales" because they were the "right size" in addition to a high blubber content and other factors that made them the preferred target of whalers.
