I ask that because Joseph said that about Emma, his wife, when she refused to accept the polygamy doctrine. (She was the sane one, granted.)

But it did make me wonder then and does now when hearing that - for those who die and cross over to the other side - if given the opportunity to try and save a lost loved one who goes astray - how deep is your love for that person to want to save them even from the depths of hell if you could?

Since it's extremely unlikely that either place exists...no.

I would of course give up my life to save the life of someone I love.
If there was no other choice.
But I would, of course, first try to find a way that we could both live...:)

There was a movie about this with Robyn Williams, "What Dreams May Come," in 1998. He died in a car accident then went to hell to save his wife who died by suicide.

Who would've foreseen then the actor's life would imitate art?

:(

I saw that movie and thought it was beautiful.

My worldview does not include that possibility that a person could successfully go to hell and get someone else out, so in reality, this is moot.

My worldview includes that someone else did once--so I don't have to.

In the world that we live in though, there are people who are giving up their own privileges in order to help make someone else's life better than it might be.

Kind and faithful caregivers of the elderly or impaired. Especially those who are family and are doing it out of love. Those who help with any kind of service project, any kind of service that helps the unlovely have a shot at a better kind of life---lots and lots of people all over the world do that, and it is a beautiful thing.

I didn't have to save anyone from Mormonism. The problem took care of itself.

Have you read H.D.'s "Eurydice?" Fascinating poem from Eurydice's point of view and her anger at Orpheus trying to pull her from the underworld and making her remember all she forgot when she drank from Lethe.

I would 'definitely' go since there is no such place or depths of such place.

Can anyone really believe 'any' God would send anyone to 'hell' for 'anything'?

I think there is such a place as spiritual darkness or void where evil spirits go.

Take Hitler for example, the epitome of evil. Charles Manson another. The Universe is vast and complex enough it's quite possible there is room to cast evil souls into one big black hole (cauldron.) A rabbi has said that it is very possible God destroys evil spirits - they have no room in his kingdom.

Ok. Please don't get confused by different views though we are talking about the hell with everlasting 'burning' and 'torment' aren't we? Why introduce 'destruction'??? Wouldn't destruction eliminate eternal torment and burning and therefore, Hell?????

So you would only send Hitler and Manson? Hell is for 2 people?

Do you understand why they did what they did? Why did God allow Hitler or Manson in the first place if 'perfect'??

I just don't see the Logic unless your God is not perfect or logical but perfectly illogical!

I wasn't talking eternal torment. I was talking eternal destruction of someone's soul - based on a judgment call of the creator.

It wasn't Hell I was describing when I shared what the rabbi was speaking about his perception of pure evil and God's judgment. Nor was I limiting God's judgment to two people. Couldn't you tell they were examples? I was pretty clear about that. It isn't Hell if your soul is destroyed. Where did I say that it was?

If there were no evil we wouldn't understand what it means to be good, or to develop conscience/morality/integrity/ethics.

God made allowance for evil like he did for good. It isn't for us to second guess the will or mind of God because it's incomprehensible. Where he dwells there can be no evil. If/when a judgment occurs on the souls of humankind there will be a separation between the two. The bible is clear about that.

Did Emma give Joe hell when she caught him in the barn pounding Fanny ?
