But Joseph Smith did it so it must be okay.

Excerpt:

"Imagine a girl who may have had to drop out of high school and may only be able to work a certain number of hours under state labor laws.”

Comment:

I'm imagining a system of laws that makes pedophilia legal for the predator, simultaneously turning her into a sex slave, where she's "old enough" to be married, but still not mature enough to drive a car or get a job. When she "ages out" of his preferential limits, he simply gets a quickie divorce, because he's already found his next 12-year old "wife," Still, he even could be considered his soon-to-be ex wife's "guardian," under current conditions. He could have to grant his permission for her to legally divorce him.

Nay, nay. As legislators grapple with this "issue," they decidedly adjudicate fully adult SSM to be "morally" repugnant.

They have NO shame. Whatever plunks their greedy a$$es into a seat of corruption, that's who they'll serve and protect. Twelve-year olds can't vote.

One would think that a legally sanctioned marriage would also require conferring automatic legal emancipation - right to work, vote, drive, even join the armed forces.

But that just goes against common sense, I guess.

For reasons that are beyond me, it is difficult even in California to pass a law banning underage marriage.

Grappeling for decades. Adults arent interested. Its all hooked up in premarital sex between teens and having to get married. You remind them if pedophiles out there but pedophiles dont marry!
Losing cause. So the lowest age to marry with parental consent and judge signing off is 12.
Look at other countries 80 year old man marrying an 8 year old. ~s were better that them. They force their children we dont.

Of course they're being forced! They're just too young to know it.

Okay, States can't get it done, so why isn't it a Federal Constitutional protection. Getting married, at twelve, under the age of sexual consent in every state, ergo raped, would seem to go against any concept of freedom, snd to the sexual enslavement of children.

"...children may be pressured into it because of traditional or religious beliefs..."

Interesting the way HuffPuff dances away from naming the religion that dare not be criticized, and I'm not talking about breakaway LDS sects. Wonder what that great feminist icon Linda Sarsour has to say about this, or would she clam up like she does about Female Genital Mutilation?

Hangs head in shame...every time I think we've become brighter and better...some dumb ass marries a 12 year old...and can't see a thing wrong with it...usually attributing the license to do so to some deity or other...or some dam book or other...gah..maybe there is no hope...and then here comes snuffer...oh goody

That's right. "What ever God commands is right, no matter what it is," right?

And those who offend have a different set of rules for themselves than for everybody else.

I can hear the marriage officiator now,

"As this child has CHOSEN to be married to this man in Holy Wedlock...."

Sound familiar?
