I read today that Community of Christ (RLDS) has owned the Printer's Manuscript of the Book of Mormon since 1903. They just sold it to LDS Inc. for 35 million dollars.

Interesting.

I don't begrudge their getting a large bit of change for it. I only hope that clear, legible, and complete images of every page are available to authentic scholars.

"Donors provided money for the purchase," according to the Deseret News.

I wonder if those "donations" came from tithes?

Not from tithes.

Wealthy folks donate money specficly for this project. They get a write off, special considerations and the church gets its document.

Sometimes a person will purchase a document then donate the document for an inflated write off.

Yep.
I wonder how many of those "wealthy folks" mormons put up $35 million to provide relief to the injured/homeless in Florida, Puerto Rico, the Leeward Islands, or Mexico in the past few weeks?

No, strike that...I don't wonder. I know. None. Though some probably did give token amounts. But that wasn't for the glory of TSCC, so no $35m.

If they didn't already have their 2nd anointing, I bet they're on schedule to get that little thing done...

Well at least a couple of the newer apostles are gazillioners so that's pocket change to them.

I hope some Mormons are upset that the purchase was done after so many disasters in the US and the Church, which always claims to be the biggest charity and first responder, will be criticized for paying so much money right now. Very unfortunate timing. But then again, they'll justify it.

Maybe RLDS wanted hush money.
