Some people really shouldn't carry loaded weapons. And folks who are so easily terrified shouldn't be in law enforcement.

"Neither officer was wearing a body camera." ... how convenient.

On the edge of being political, BUT- so many Mormons fall into this category that I feel it is appropriate:

They got what they wanted. They wanted Law and Order. They wanted Tough on Crime. They wanted Mandatory Sentencing. They wanted Three Strikes and You're Out. They wanted a War on Drugs. And on and on. Hell, most Mormons are completely OK with Blood Atonement. So are they surprised when the police end up as thugs? Tell me why they are surprised.

Bear in mind, cops were responding to a crime that someone had called in. Very tragic that the perpetrator's deaf son was the one whom cops found on the porch holding what could be used as a deadly weapon. Not all officers are equipped with tasers.

Question: Does anyone ever squawk when cops are ambushed and murdered?

I didn't say we shouldn't, Dave. But cops getting murdered doesn't seem to get much attention these days.

That's because the on-the-job death rate of cops is the lowest it's ever been.

Let's hope and pray to God (and statistics may bear) that police shooting people is the lowest it's ever been, also.

Cops getting murdered always get massive attention. Our society puts a high priority on hunting down and punishing cop killers. The murder of a police officer brings the highest level of punishment in our justice system, often the death penalty.

Claiming otherwise seems like a poor rhetorical excuse for justifying the killing of this poor disabled man.

Why do you think I was justifying it?

Because you brought it up. Otherwise it's a complete non sequitur.

Not a non sequiter at all.

Just contrasting media reaction.

If there's a non sequiter here, it's OP's remark that "some people really shouldn't carry loaded weapons," which is absolutely correct in general, but a non sequiter in this instance.

I don't like that a deaf man died either.

OP here. Nice try, Kathleen.

You commented previously that "Not all officers are equipped with tasers." Did you read the article? Both officers in this case WERE equipped with tasers, but only one of them used his.

A cop who is so easily spooked as to pull out his gun on someone with a pipe (which at the time they thought was just a stick) 15 feet away, and blow him away, while his partner has the presence of mind to use non-lethal force, should not be a LEO or be allowed to carry loaded weapons.

Nothing will happen to the cop personally once he returns from vacation, whoops "administrative leave." However, OKC will be on the hook for a rather large settlement, thanks to one coward for whom a badge is essentially a license to kill.

There are huge parades to and from the church and memorials and the widows get a large insurance payouts. And more memorials, rallies etc.

This was a good mormon cop that was killed. No doubt he was a nice guy.

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/865649335/Wife-of-fallen-officer-upset-his-killers-name-was-recited-at-rally.html

The 17 year old girl who drove the truck got a life sentence. The boyfriend with the gun was killed.

The trial was like a pep rally with all Wride's friends and family and ward wearing the same T-shirts. I am really sorry this guy died but the widow seems to really get off on the publicity.

Go ahead, flame me.

As a recall, everyone clapped and cheered when the 17 year old got a life sentence.

The girl just had a few family members with her in trial. The rest of the crowd were friends and ward members of Wride both inside and outside the courthouse.

It was cringe worthy.

In a different article the 2' pipe was described with a piece of leather that kept it on his wrist. I thought to myself if he is deaf, he probably uses that to communicate.

People were telling the cops he was deaf. The cops didn't listen or think. No body Cam on the cops.

And no one had an iPhone or camera?

Family should get a good lawyer.

"When you have a weapon out, you can get what they call tunnel vision, or you can lock into just the person who has the weapon, the threat against you,"

Looks like when you are CARRYING a weapon yourself, you can get tunnel vision, and see everything as a target.

Cops make a mistake and people get killed by them.

How many people have to be murdered by cops before there

are changes made ?
