I did some research a few years ago and found that TSCC has financial stakes in Ancestry.com. Anyone able to back this up?

Additionally, I kept seeing ads on my Instagram feed for a company called "Chatbooks" where they turn your Instagram photos into physical picture books. I did some research and found it's based out of Utah and that the church's Deseret Digital Media, a sister company to the Deseret News, both of which are owned by Deseret Media Companies (owned by TSCC!), is an investor! (See article below)

I know the church has its hands in several for profit companies. But I'd like to know people's thoughts on this?! It's confusing to me how they can get away with this.

They are good stewards, making money hand over fist, which they return to the membership by way of a cable station you have to pay to get., plus temples where you attain ghawdhood, for only one thin dime of every dollar.

I heard that the church was involved some way, but figured it had to do with the genealogy part, since they're big , or used to be on that subject.

Maybe I'm wrong, but regardless of it being a "management and holding company of for-profit businesses" for TSCC. I still find it very odd for a non-profit "church" to have that and be a part of whatever type of business they'd like to be in. Just goes to show TSCC truly is just a business. :(

They sure advertise a lot on TV. The ads are appealing, actually. I had always been very interested in genealogy but my yrs in Mormonism turned me right off it. I do want to create a family map for all the family members, though. Nobody has done it before. With a bit of renewed interest lately, I was thinking of starting with AncestryDNA so thanks for the timely warning to check places out before you jump in.

Good advice re converting to churches as well...
