And I'm not supposed to know. No worries, right?

His younger step-sister just told me. She thought I should know. Son was throwing up yesterday and began throwing up blood. They may be doing an endoscopy about now. She is going to the hospital to check on him.

Positive thoughts and noodley appendage waggles requested again.

He is an atheist, and wouldn't want prayers. He loves the FSM, however.

Thank you all for letting me cry on your strong, collective shoulders.

My older daughter is an RN in that hospital and will keep an eye on him, too.

Hey, he's in show business! Nervous ulcers have to be common, que no?

that's the first thing I thought of.

I'm hoping for the best!

Luckily the "nervous ulcer" was found out to be (largely) a myth. They're usually caused by an H. Pylori infection.

Let's hope it's just an ulcer. They're cured quite quickly in most cases nowadays.

Fingers crossed for you {{{catnip}}}.

So many people were carrying around colanders on eclipse day I can see eclipses becoming sacred events once FSM is firmly established as a religion.

Oh, heck, he's going to be fine... I've diagnosed him... I'd prescribe, but the real doctors would rat me out.

But until endoscopy is done, he can't eat or drink anything. I think they are giving him IV fluids because he was griping about being thirsty.

Elderolddog, he has been performing for more than 20 years, and loves it. No nervous ulcers there.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone. Will keep you posted on what I'm not supposed to know. . .

Many positive thoughts coming to you, both, and hugs to you, catnip. I'm glad his sis is RN there to keep an eye on him and hope that brings you some comfort, as well :) I was a nurse in my 'previous life'(pre stroke) and it brought my mother great comfort that I was working in the same hosp that my sis was in, following a minor car accident. Please keep us posted as to how he is doing!

Aww, I'm sending you a hug from afar! That must be worrisome. But at least he is getting good care, and your RN daughter can keep an eye on the situation.

I hope everything works out well for him and for you. It's usually harder on the mother than it is on the patient no matter what the patient's age.

Sorry ((((catnip)))
It could be minor. Once I was admitted to the hospital for throwing up blood. Turned out to be broken veins from from throwing up because if a virus. It looked so scary, but turned out to be minor.

I'm still not entirely clear as to what the original problem was.

Apparently when they were trying to do the endoscopy, they give you "twilight" sedation (which, if you have ever had it, still leaves you conscious, but not-all-there, mentally.) Son apparently thought somebody was trying to suffocate him by ramming something down his throat. He is big and powerful. He sat up, yanked the endoscope out of his throat, and could not be sedated enough for them to complete the procedure. He does not remember any of this. A nurse told my daughter.

So either the kids are "protecting" me by not telling me everything ("protecting" Mom, you know? I'm a lot tougher than they think I am) or, if I am to take everything at face value, he is OK.

So - you guys ow know as much as I do.

I have been through stuff they can't even imagine. I don't know why they feel they have to protect me. But I love them for it.

Somebody blew up his balloon.

Thanks for the story-updates. Rntertaining. Fascinating. Titillating.

What's he (and his partners-in-crime) afraid of? You know everything. Yea!

Autonomy ("protection") falls in the way of communication. Openness. Honesty.

Endoscopy used to be complete sedation. Don't know when they started using less. I know some procedures similar in Europe, they use no sedation. Is he still in the hospital? If he still needs the procedure, I hope they Put him under comepletely.
I hope this is all over soon, in his favour.
