They're not really 'gates' like we moderns think of gates. You have to see the photo...

I think they was probably a big handball craze at that time and these were just big, BIG, handball courts.

I can't think of any way los mormones can work this into confirmation of Nephi's travels on his way to 'Murica.

It is nice to have a new mystery to think about! Til dinner anyway...

Oh, sure you can. You have a fertile imagination (or so saucie says)...

For example:

"These aren't gates. They're pens that Lehi and his family used to keep their animals from wandering off at night as they made their way through the desert!"

Or:

It's an indication that you know the Dawg well or went golfing with him. ;)

I hope scientists can get at least a few of these dated fairly soon. (Probably from pieces of ceramic jars...or even ancient feces.)

As soon as they have a fairly accurate date, it will be a great deal easier (by comparison with what ELSE was going on in the surrounding areas during that same time frame), to figure out what the purpose of these "gates" was...and probably a good idea (at least an educated guess) of who built them.

Could they be Tapir pens?

I wish 'scientists' could solve one 'mystery' at a time.

The Great Pyramids would be a good one to solve first. If the 'Egyptians' were smart enough to build these things which I doubt, where did the technology/know how go?

Why no extensive record of what was use and who were the workers?

I have seen the theories and am not impressed and don't believe this is solved so I expect more 'theories' in the future.

I believe this is evidence of a long-rumored secret league of grumpy old pharaohs.

Behind each of these gates has been found a sarcophagus containing the mummified remains of a single, old man. And the inscription on each of the sarcophaguses is the same:

"Hey you, get off my lawn."
