I grew up mormon, I tried, but failed to read the bible with an open mind.

But here are the reasons why masturbation without porn is not a sin according to the bible:

they cite;

"Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air, but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected" (I Corinthians 9:25-27).

I have never read those versus that way. I will never unsee the comparrison to self abuse.

I think Paul is talking about things like getting up early to meet a commitment. Doing what is needed to prepare to preach instead of hanging out with your friends, eating and drinking. Putting himself in harm's way by preaching and teaching--which he did.

Not being self-indulgent, in other words, because he had something to accomplish that mattered more to him.

My thoughts:

As far as I know, the bible never mentions masturbation. Ever. The verse quoted above is more than a bit of a stretch, as is the "Onan" story (his 'sin' was pulling out, and not impregnating his dead brother's wife, not masturbating).

There is that thing about thinking about a woman with lust is the same as sleeping with her (yes, I paraphrased), but that's a bit of a stretch as well.

Now, personally, I don't *care* what the bible calls a 'sin.' After all, it says eating pork and shellfish is a 'sin,' and that's just stupid. It says picking up sticks on a Saturday is a 'sin' worthy of death, and that's even more stupid. 'Sin' is anything some jerkwads who want to control you say it is, and I have no use of the concept. Or the bible, for that matter.

But if you want to believe you can rub one off with a biblically-clear conscience, you're good to go. And you don't need some church telling you it's OK (or not, in the case of mormons).

agreed, but the site seems to take like 1000 more words to say the same thing. BUt I doubt they would reject the bible the same way of course. Interesting how rejecting scripture sure does speed up the coversation. Scriptures are fucking dumb.

"No sin?" No point, either!

Mormonism is a constant battle to Distract people (members) away from Kindness, Honesty, Respect for others, BECAUSE the GAs know they don't have the patent / trademark for those.

From time to time, their focus shifts, That's the REAL STORY.

I have never understood the whole sin thing. And i have never understood the whole masterbaiting is a sin thing. Isn't it unhealthy to not masterbait? I guess i am just a sinful man.

Yes we women sure do! And ya I thought I heard it was unhealthy for males to not masterbate so what's this "do not arouse these emotions in your own body" crap the church spews out?! Do they want men to have a higher cancer risk or something?! Also I never understood Boyd k packers talk I cant remember which one it but the one where he says you should leave the door open when you go to the bathroom so your not tempted to masterbate in there really really Boydy boy? You really think leaving the door open so you can flash your junk to everyone who walks by is more chaste than a little self lovin? After the age of about five or so maybe even younger its seriously not appropriate to leave the door open when you go to the bathroom good grief boyd was nuts! And the whole going blind thing man wouldn't like MOST OF THE WORLD be walking around in the dark if that were true? Lol

Source on the leaving the bathroom door open? I was an extremely active member for 30 years, I read everything about everything. It took me 5 years to leave becuase I wanted to be sure about what I believe. So in saying that, I never heard this leave the door open thing.

DO you have a source? Or is it just a rumor?

12. During your toileting and shower activities leave the bathroom door or shower curtain partly open, to discourage being alone in total privacy. Take cool brief showers.

My nevermo friends have never worried in the slightest about either of those things. But I'm not close friends with anyone in the evangelical/fundie camp, so IDK about them.

It does sound like something BKP would have come up with. After all, he was the author of the little factory pamphlet.

And I'm female.

I found it to be pleasurable, but so are a lot of other things. Once I became a Mormon, I considered it to be none of the church's business anyway. And they never specifically asked about it, which I understand is far more often grilled about, in detail, with guys.

The standard question was "Do you obey the Law of Chastity?" which I took to mean, "Do you have sex with anybody you aren't married to?" and I always answered "no" with a totally clear conscience.

Ya I think I got Marks talk mixed up with the little factory talk haha sorry about that! It does sound like Boyd talking though! And lol badass ya we definitely do like it too :) haha I don't blame you for thinking that though the church always acted like all women are asexual I would always hear about how men are these big sexual deviants and I was taught in young women's how "girls are like dainty little butterflies they don't care about the physical they care about the emotional and want love and relationships and men are just dirty dogs that are visual physical monster deviants and you girls better cover up and not let some boy take advantage of you!" Now badass I am here to tell you that thats a bunch of sh*t LOL I mean its not like women don't want love and relationships and stuff we do but to act like were some asexual little prarie flower is rediculous! LOL I think maybe SOME women are asexual but also some men could be asexual I think it depends more on the individual than on that persons gender.

I honestly cant remember EVER in young women's being taught that we shouldn't masturbate but apperently the guys were taught that quite a bit so I guess its not a sin if girls do it?! LOL idk I would hear all these teachings about what freaking animals men are and if they ever talked about girls having sex it was ALWAYS that the boy pressured them into it somehow! And that it was a huge "chore" for the girl I would hear these teaching and think to myself that women didn't have a sex drive and that I must just be a big old pervert I luckily never felt guilty about it just kind of giggled to myself and was like "oh well" its my little secret hehehe but unfortunately there's probably girls who are more into the church then me who DO feel super guilty aboutt it which isnt good. :( but ya I always thought it was just me but then my cousin was telling me how she felt guilty cause she had been feeling SOOO......shall we say....in the mood lately and I was confused cause I thought I was one of the few girls who ever felt that way and I was like hmmmm...maybe it just runs in the family? LOL oh...gosh!!! Now I realize how rediculous I was to think that but the church always taught me I was a pure little butterfly so it came as a big surprise to me! And It wasn't until I stopped going to church and started hanging around more non lds folks that I realized its totally normal for woman to have hormones and that sometimes they can be even more intense than the guys! LOL

I have one friend who tells a lot of dirty jokes and her sisters boyfriend told her "wow your even worse than the guys! LOL so ya it really just does depend on the individual the church just teaches some things from the dark ages I think LOL
