Two reasons:

1) "Community of Christ" (no "the"...wonder how that works in non-English languages) no longer believes in the BOM. Yes, they'll let some old people in the CoC keep believing that if they want. They don't care. But, the leadership does not believe in it. So, a Printer's Copy of a BOGUS book, selling for 35 MILLION, they must be laughing all the way to the bank on this one.

2) "Community of Christ" (remember...no "the") is running out of money, and they have thousands of full-time career people who have worked for that Church all their adult lives, who are facing retirement, and they don't have enough money coming in to "cover" their retirement contracts. The young people see no reason to keep coming to "Church" when all they hear is the Democratic Party Platform, and they can listen to that online. They don't have to sit in Church and listen to old people fart and pay money to a Church that really does not "do" anything with their money other than to repair their "Temple of Peace" and pay into retirement funds. PROPHECY: I prophesy in the name of the Lord God, and let it be written, that Community of Christ will sell off its Temple of Peace and much of its properties in North America, to the LDS Church, before this generation shall pass away. Even so. Amen"

Let he who has ears, hear
Let he who has eyes, see
Let he who has a bladder, pee.

Worlds without end...

1. They no longer need to bear the cost of preserving the book.

2. $35,0000,000.00 how can they pass that up? It sold for more than an original Da Vinci ($31,000,000.00)

3. They don't have a huge financial arm shoring up the evangelical side.

CoC could have had damaging information LDS didn’t want made public. Hush money.

You mean the letter JS wrote to Jasper McCullough, in which he bragged about being able to 'preach' whatever he thought up and how dumb his saints were to keep on believing him? The letter in which he bragged about his run for the US Presidency being a step towards becoming America's much needed theo-tator?

It's a great letter, and JS's doodles in the margins of women with big boobs? Hilarious!!!

It's not quite a fact...

I was projecting the future, based on how I came to lose my own cult, founded in 1984 at Griffith Park golf course.

Tell us about this "Democratic Party Platform".

"All" they teach at the CoC is the democratic party platform... That made me laugh. They certainly stand out for being one of the more liberal churches, but might be because "all" most churches teach is the Republican Party platform.

Fundie churches promise you paradise or heaven or celestial kingdom, as well as "pie in the sky" earthly blessings. "Stuff from God" now and "stuff from God" later. Liberal churches promise you that after you go home on Sunday you'll feel good about the fact your church is pro-women's rights.

Well said.

There is a CofC near my home and two splinter groups nearby. One of those is a Restoration branch and whatever else you think of JS, they'll tell you what they think too. What you see is what you get.

I went once because of curiosity. The CofC and the Restoration Branch drone like the morg. No professional speech training.
