The top dog leaders say some stupid things.I recently came across this "delightful" sentiment "If you feel overwhelmed, take that as a good sign. It indicates that you can sense the magnitude of the trust god has placed in you" - Henry B Eyering.
What a manipulative statement that is whe you deconstruct it! What are your thoughts and d you have quotes/statements from the top dogs that you despise?

To me, Uchdorfs "Doubt your Doubts" is the worst. It's just another way of saying "Don't use critical thinking, don't consider facts or reality - just do as I say."

This is one that I literally did the ROFLMFAO. How can he, who I thought was one of the somewhat reasonable dudes, actually say that over the pulpit?

If you yave to choose between paying your (rent, car, food, medicine) or tirhing. Pay your tithing.

If you are a victim of sexual abuse. Contact your bishop to see if you need to repent of your part in it.

Granted neither are word for word but were enough to cement my disaffection from the church forever.

Okay, if we're allowed not quite perfect quoting

"Don't worry about whether it's right or wrong, when a church leader tells you to do something, just do it!"

"Historians and their penchant for truth; well that just chaps my ass! Some truths just are not useful and if you print them, I'll hound your ass right out of this church!" (That's how I hear it in my head...)

The one I hate above all:

"A prophet is a prophet only when he is acting as such."

So...when a prophecy fails, or a divinely revealed plan goes wrong, well...he was just a man at that moment, not really a prophet, even though he and everyone else thought he was playing that role? Hmm.

Let's play word substitution, shall we?

"A pedophile is a pedophile only when he is acting as such."
"A murderer is a murderer only when she is acting as such."
"A terrorist is a terrorist only when he is acting as such."

If there ever was a more meaningless, convoluted and misleading statement uttered in defense of this cult I cannot think of it.

I tried to find the original quote but cannot. I believe it was by SWK:
If you put 10 men and 10 women in a room and each has a temple recommend you will have 10 good marriages.
I actually believed that and married an abusive, card carrying, man.
