I realized something I hadn't thought of before when someone asked: " Is there anything written in the Book of Mormon that justifies the apparent scarcity of archaeological and genetic evidence for its authenticity?"
Here's part of the answer: "First off: the book is an abridgement. This means that Mormon had multiple records at his disposal. He writes, near the end of the book:
6 And now there cannot be written in this book even a hundredth part of the things which Jesus did truly teach unto the people;
7 But behold the plates of Nephi do contain the more part of the things which he taught the people.
8 And these things have I written, which are a lesser part of the things which he taught the people;...."
He then goes on to relate how "the Lord" told Mormon *not* to write down all the cool stuff that Jesus taught people, because...people had to have..."faith"?!
WAIT A MINUTE! What complete and utter bullshit! The BoM contains the "fullness of the Gospel", but the BoM doesn't include a whole bunch of Christ's teachings!?!?
And this "milk before meat" crapola because God wanted to give people only A PART OF THE GOSPEL AND NOT THE "FULLNESS..."!? It seems more like JS & Co. wanted to perhaps come up with more "ancient writings" if they though they could sell another book, or they trying a little CYA in case some contradictory showed up the BoM, then they could say, "Oh, there's an unwritten "sealed portion" that that explains it all.
Help me out here, is this not a major flaw in LDS thinking & apologetics (amongst the 100's of others)?
AND ANOTHER THING, APOLOGISTS SAY IT'S NOT A HISTORY BOOK (BECAUSE THEY GET CAUGHT IN A BUNCH OF HISTORICAL IMPROBABILITIES), IT'S A "SPIRITUAL HISTORY"; SO, AGAIN, *WHY* IS A LOT OF JESUS CHRIST'S TEACHINGS--THE MOST IMPORTANT TEACHING EVER TO HAPPEN ON PLANET EARTH, LEFT OUT...OF A SPIRITUAL HISTORY!?!?!?
So according to the BoM, "Jesus" was there (somewhere in the Americas) for, what -- a day?
Yet there's a time period of about a thousand years that the BoM supposedly covers. And no archeological evidence of any kind to back any of that thousand years of stories up.
So what does the abridging of the Jesus teachings have to do with the lack of a thousand years of archeology?
Nothing, that's what.
Smith probably put that in for himself as an "out" for later on. So he could make up more "teachings," and then claim that they were part of the secret shit Jesus told the Nephites that wasn't included in the gold plates.
And, still, there is absolutely no physical evidence in the Americas -- anywhere, of any kind -- that any of these people ever existed, or the events in the book took place. Zero, zip, nada.
