Because it’s an attitude that needs someone else to be wrong in order to be right. It divides the world into less thans and better thans. It sets up rules to do this, which have little basis except in the imagination.

The natural man is no enemy to God. People are already basically good. They avoid doing bad things because bad things hurt people. They kinda get it without being scared by a paper God. Admittedly, there are outliers I wouldn’t mess with, but those aren’t scared by anything.

Righteous people need to justify their us versus them mentally by creating enemies. But normal people know this, so the NYT probably isn’t baffled as to how they made the Mormon shit list. It stinks, and the smell isn’t coming from the NYT.

I remember when I was a Mormon kid, I just wanted to be normal. I just had to quit the Mormons and join the world. Who knew?

It's been my experience that, in general, the more "righteous" someone claims to be, the more really nasty shit they do in secret.
