Yes, I know it’s supposed to be Nelson and yes, I’m up in the night.
Hi, rfmers. I’m back in Utah, which is not a bad thing imo. It still feels like home. So I’m going along, trying my best to disregard the mormosity, when Monson dies. Good grief, the Governor was yakking away about reading Monson’s sermons and trying to better, and the news people were crying on TV! Super weird after 25 years away.
I was struck by a photo they showed of Monson with the Council of Ancient Doddering Con Men in 1965, 2 years after he was invited to join at age 36. Even Hinckley, who also looked youngish compared to the others, was 17 years older than Monson.
How’d he swing that deal, do you suppose? He couldn’t yet have been very wealthy. Did he have some dirt on somebody, or was he just that much better at schmoozing and being in the right places at the right times? Having Harold B. Lee as a stake president probably helped his cause.
Does anybody know?
