I'd like to think it's true, but I doubt it. Mormons have a talent for convincing themselves that they love their leaders, even if their leaders have traits they would despise in a normal person. They can love a blowhard like Holland and they convinced themselves that Boyd was a sweet old man, so they will learn to love the new FP, too. Dieter getting sent back down to the minors would push me toward the door if I was still in the church (never much cared for Oaks as a TBM, but I loved Dieter), but I probably still would have stuck it out. I haven't seen any increased numbers on the Quit Mormon's Wait Time page, so we'll see.
Agreed. Anything a Mormon thinks about the leadership is a direct reflection of its standing before the Lord. A worthy Morg-bot will simply put its head down and say "yes" rather than face the retribution of the punisher gods of Mormonism.
I agree, as well. It's not likely that people have walked away due to the new leadership. TBMs are TBMs and will find a way of making "peace" within themselves
So, they withstood MORmON racism, they withstood MORmON polygamy, they withstood the Mark Hoffman scandal, they withstood the recent exposure of the Book of Abraham translation BLUNDER, they with stood the stunning idiocy of PRofit Gordon BS Hinckley's reign.....they withstood the Prop 8 debacle...... but NOW, since whatever, WHATEVER!, happened to Deiter FuckDork they are compelled to quit the MORmON church.
Sounds like people who were never really very far in anyway.
in leadership, so I assume there are some. An old neighbor "friend" on fb has a son named Russell Nelson and she has been bragging about it. She was a pretty wild youth and has cheated on her husband, but she's right there singing his praises.
My oldest son, age 44 this fall, was a pretty bad student in high school and I'd never want to relive that. Even he admits he was a jerk to teachers and admins and to his parents, if you can imagine.
He had a "friend" in high school, named Russell Nelson, who was a good part of his being bad, mostly attendance wise. To me and his mother, my son got a good portion of his bad attendance habits from Russ. And Russ was unlikable...never could figure out what they saw in each other.
Anyway, I don't remember when I first connected the names of Russ, the high school asshole and Russell M Nelson, the church guy. I just remember thinking that one of them would probably be embarrassed that he has the other's name.
It is my understanding that the first presidency is overriding (higher) and hence unequal to the Quorum of the 12. Is this correct?
In the first presidency the concept of primus inter paries, first among equals exists. Is this correct or does Nelson have all of the marbles and the other 14 just assistants? Does theQ12 have the authority or ability to excommunicate a member of the First Presidency?

Yes, the president is higher in authority. Not sure about his counselors.

Nelson is the one and only who holds the right to exercise all the "priesthood authority"...Ie all the "priesthood keys"...the other hold the keys as well, just not to right to exercise them the way Nelson does.

The top dog is the president.

Major doctrinal and policy changes are decided on the basis of unanimity in the Q15. McKay and the others wanted to eliminate the priesthood ban in the 1960s. Harold Lee and a couple of others refused, and that delayed the process till 1978.
So there is a consensual element to new doctrines and policies.
It is, if I remember correctly, and if a lot of people were leaving anyway, it's going to look like it was because of the new top three dusty old con men.
One message I got from their press conference is they've done all the changing they're going to do, for the next while, That was loud and clear.
When the question about gay people came up, their bodies tightened up, they pulled back a little, and they grimaced. I interpreted that as meaning that liberalization on that score was never going to happen.
