I'm not sure what to think of this story. I don't even know if it's true.

Postal Trucker writes ...
===================

"I once came across a man named “Johnny”. Johnny was a Mexican-American in his early-fifties who had been a school bus driver. He lived in an ultra-conservative town in an ultra-conservative county in Texas.

One day, when the children were disembarking from his bus, he remarked to a little girl about her new dress and how pretty it was. He placed his hand on her hip, so he could turn her slightly and get a better look at the dress.

The girl’s mother had instructed the little girl to report to her if anyone were to ever touch her in ANY way. When the girl told her mother about Johnny complimenting her dress, touching her hip and moving her body, the mother called the police.

There was nothing more that Johnny did but touch the girl’s hip. He didn't move his hand to any other place on her body, nor did he make any kind of sexual remark to her. I know all this because I had the complete police report read to me. The report included the little girl’s testimony as well as another girl standing behind her who corroborated her story.

At the maniacal mother’s insistence, Johnny was arrested for sexual assault on a child. Johnny’s family was not wealthy and he could not afford an attorney, so he was assigned a public defender who talked him into taking a plea bargain that would avoid jail time, but included forced sex offender registration.

Johnny was married and had his own children who attended the local school. Because his SO registration was made public on the Internet and word spread quickly, his children were incessantly harassed, bullied, and belittled for their father being a sex offender. Their family home was vandalized, and they received numerous threatening letters demanding they leave the community. Johnny and his wife thought about moving to another town, but his public SO registration requirement, found easily on the Internet, would just follow him there and they would have the same problems.

So, one day, Johnny got into his old pickup truck and drove out to a country road, pulled a shotgun from behind the seat, and blew his brains out. He was thoughtful enough to get out of the truck first because the family would have to continue driving the truck since it was the only vehicle in the family, and he didn’t want them having to clean up his blood, brain tissue, and skull fragments from the interior. He also called the police right before he pulled the trigger so that they would come out and find him immediately and the family wouldn’t find him first.

Johnny left a suicide note for his family that explained why he felt he needed to end his life. He essentially knew that he was the source of the family’s suffering. If he went away, all his loved ones’ problems would also go away. He offered his death as a gift to his family.

There are many thousands of other examples like this in our country where the lives of entire families were destroyed by ignorant sexophobes, along with carnivorous, conservative prosecutors, when the real victims of the “system” were a threat to no one.

It’s the sexophobes, terrified of anything related to human sexuality, who were responsible for Johnny's death. They murdered him. They own it. Does it make them proud? I’ll bet it does. With all their limited ability to think, they go out and spread disinformation to others that Johnny was a threat to society simply because he was listed on the Internet as a registered sex offender, not knowing any details about his case. In their defense, this is understandable as the criminal justice system is set up this way with respect to “sex crimes”. Society has been conditioned to react this way.

We have almost one million sex offenders in the United States, virtually all of them men. The vast majority of them are a threat to no one.

Incurable clinical pedophiles, serial rapists, and those purchasing child pornography, thus driving the market for kidnapping children for sexual purposes, all of whom have proven themselves to be a constant and continual threat to society, should be the only ones required to register as sex offenders. No one else.

This is only one thing that is what’s wrong with our “justice” system. There are many other examples."

The story may not be real, but it does bring up an unpleasant reality. Sex offender designation is a black or white, yes or no kind of thing, and in many cases, it does nothing to protect the public.

In some jurisdictions, a single instance of public urination can result in a SO designation. Years ago, I read about a group of college students that got intoxicated on Halloween and went streaking down a street where students were celebrating. Some of them were issued citations by the local police department. They later discovered that pleading guilty and paying a fine was not an option, because they would have to register as sex offenders. I certainly don’t endorse their behavior, but it makes no sense to lump them in with those who rape or molest children.

Back in '70's, when streaking was a thing, it happened a few times on our high school campus.

It was silly, it was funny; our principle, who was a TBM, obviously thought it was inappropriate (as a school official, he sort of had to, right?), nevertheless he let it slide and was wise enough to let it be fun and silly.

That's a horribly sad story. :(

In today's world, you shouldn't touch a child on the hip. Possibly the shoulder is appropriate.

I had to watch a video about children who are groomed for sexual abuse before I was allowed to volunteer at my daughter's school. The video explained that one thing sexual abusers do is start with what might be perceived as a good, healthy touch, like hugging or tickling and "horsing around." But from there it goes to what is very bad territory. I think it's good that the mother taught her daughter that it isn't ok for people to touch her body but sounds like things spiraled out of control and ended in tragedy.

It seems likely that racism played more than a small part in this drama.

It sounds like something that could happen, and it sums up what kind of people ( they even have women on it) are mainly on the registration. Some of them are just guys who had a “ underage “ girlfriend. He was 18 or 19 , and she 16 or 17, depending on the state.
Some of them were lies, people accusing them of something that they didn’t do, for whatever reason.
Some of them one time mistakes, where someone mislead the other person about their age, the list goes on.
They are plenty of scumbags , like Dave said that are literal sexual predators and rapist, etc
