Money talks and travel dollars are always heard loud and clear.

With Mormons, Money trumps Morals.

. . . Not that Mormons have morals to trump. Well they have their version of morality, but hey . . .

Don't they have porn in their hotels too? Like pay per view or something?

One of the people quoted in the article was named Apoorva Gandhi. That doesn't sound like a Mormon name...

I think the idea that all of Marriot’S business decisions are going to line up perfectly or even mostly with the Mormon church poorly reasoned thinking. Is it a company ran by (mostly) and started by Mormons? Yes. But it is also a top of the line multi- Billion dollar value hotel chain that doesn’t strike me as foolish enough to make all of its business decisions with strict reference to Mormon values and ideals. It wants to turn a maximum profit, and it’s probably read the public pulse about everything from gay rights to the public’s desire for pornography consumption in hotels.

Does this mean that Marriot hotels don’t occasionally or even frequently mesh with Mormon ideas? Of course. And I’m sure they have and will continue to do dumb stuff, but it’s a businsss first and foremost, and what I’m reading here seems to indicate a desire to accommodate the widest range of guests and thus make the most money.

It’s not a defense, it just seems to be willing to turn with, instead of against the tide. I could be wrong I suppose.

Actually Marriot is an investor owned corporation these days. Listed on NASDAQ (Symbol is MAR). The owners of Marriot can do whatever they want. I am sure that there are portions still owned by the Marriot family, including big blocks of stock. But they obviously got outvoted by the majority of the stock owners.

That would seem to further indicate a departure from the idea as a church-affiliated company to me.

It's long been established that RICH Mormons can do whatever they want.

Their exception-to-the-rules is even sealed, in their official "second anointing", which assures their entry into the Celestial Kingdom, no matter whatever else they do.
