I've googled this and gotten the impression it is possible.

But here's the thing. This is a text from 2014, on an old phone and a carrier I'm no longer with. It's an important one. BUT, if it is hopeless, I don't want to go on a wild goose chase.

Any advice?

Do you still have the old phone? If not, you're almost certainly out of luck.

Apple or Android?

Maybe you could contact the service provider? They may be able to get text records.

Maybe the other party saved it? I have text messages from 2001.

I do have the old phone. The person who texted me is my former husband who is now deceased. I guess my main question is whether a text message that old from two phones that have not been in use for years is even a possibility.

When information is transferred from one phone to a new phone, does the old phone still retain stuff in the memory?

If I go to the carrier, I probably need to go to the carrier I had when this message was sent..

thanks for the input. I will update you all on what I find out.

There are apps to do this. Dr Fone is one I have heard of.

One way is to save them before sending (such as in a digital document, or screenshot, or hand written notes).

Pre planning. Just a thought.
