It sort of made my day to see those pictures of real people and real places in time.

He was an artist, ie, the photographer. :)

My parents had the book with the photos. I recall, as a child in
the late 50s, looking through the book and being fascinated.

His stuff reminds me of the photos in Life magazines and Look magazines. My parents subscribed to both. I was fascinated looking at them as a kid.
