And that is, somebody washed the damn thing. If they hadn't washed it, it may have been possible to collect lichen and/or pollen from the surface of the carving. A sample the size of a pin head will do. This can then be run through an Accelerated Mass Spectrometer for a C-14 date. This would give you the youngest date that the carving could be. But, they washed it so no AMS date.
In my opinion, it's either recent, was recently modified, or some critter carved stylistically.
