Hopefully you can open this link to the NYTimes.

the just is that Mormons are coming from all over the country to see the BoM on B'way and that it stirs many feelings from their own misshy days.

It is a validation that their religion has moved into the mainstream.

It says in the article "The Mormon Church itself (formally called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) has".

So, the Morg has changed their name?

I had to read the ststement twice before I understood. I confused formally with formerly.

Also I think it is interesting that the "Mormon" mentioned from the audience is John Dehlin.

Particularly telling is the final quote in the article:

============
“The things they’re making fun of are the myths that don’t affect our everyday lives,” said Mr. Ford, a father of six who teaches gospel doctrine, the Mormon term for Sunday school.

The myths may be outlandish, he said, “but people are blessed by it.”
============

I assume Mr. Ford is a NOM of some type, but that of course is not a distinction a non-Mormon reporter is going to make, so he is portrayed as a typical Mormon believer to readers.

Of course, this runs head first into the way we were all raised and/or taught: that the founding stories of Moism are truly the truliest most truly true stories ever!!! We KNOW beyond a shadow of doubt how truly true they are!!!

Outsiders are struck with how the founding stories are probably pulled from someone's ass and the musical plays this up (quite literally, I have read in reviews ;-). The musical seems to be a source for pulling rug out from under Mormon literalism. Stories of the First Vision from real Mo missionaries may elicit laughs from those that have seen the musical.
