I read in the news that the parody article stating that the LDS church leadership had apologized for its racist past has really knocked the church on its heels, because the are left having to explain to the public that, No, we did not apologize for our racism. The parody was brilliantly executed, and has opened up a serious discussion.

I thought it was brilliant too. In one fell swoop, the church looked doubly bad.

Edit to add: Triply bad because it also begged the question of why the continued bigotry against LGBT folks.

I wonder if the people who did the parody had thought it out so strategically. If so, they are geniuses because it worked like a charm.

The Parody is the SUCKERS who got took over the years.
Now they ALL want refunds plus INTEREST. Thats what!

Here someone said that the Church did something good, but it
turned out to be a lie. Mormons felt good when they heard the
lie but felt bad when it was exposed as a lie.

Who is to blame for Mormons feeling bad about this?

Both funny and sad, the reaction from many mormons was also very telling...

There were a number of complaints that the parody caused "anguish and suffering" among the (few) black mormon members.

'Cause, you know, they really loved the idea that the church apologized. And when they found it it DIDN'T apologize, they were anguished and suffered. And then the parody gets blamed for that anguish and suffering, instead of putting the blame where it belongs: on the church for not apologizing.

I read that entire article, and carefully scanned every single quote.

There was absolutely nothing in there that bore any resemblance to an apology -- "quasi" or otherwise.

It was typical mormon behavior: pretend the past doesn't exist, and only talk about what they're doing *from now on* (if that actually goes beyond PR photo-ops and short meetings, which remains to be seen -- despite the profit's words, actual racism is still deeply embedded in the church's traditions, scriptures, and members).

So, no -- they didn't offer any kind of apology, or anything like one.

Just a PR stunt. I agree.
