I love my new religion. I no longer have the stress of tithing. I noticed that my old ward is caught up in the trap of greed and materialism. They are suffering because of their wants. They will not listen to me when I tell them there is a way to break free and find peace. I know their needs are superficial. I hope to become a buddhist nun one day.

I remember as a kid in the late sixties, living next door to some Buddhist, well, his wife was. They were Nichiren Buddhist, something like that.I remember hearing the chants in my room when I was in bed.It was sedating and helped me fall asleep,
Their little girl was my sister's age and they always played together.Id go to some of the meetings with them st different houses in the Summer to help watch all the kids in the upstairs room. I remember a bell that went off and they’d all get quiet and bow, then start all over.
I don’t know if they’re still around . Which sect , if any, Buddhist are you?

I think you should look into someday, Adam. Buddhism is not really a religion, and it's ways help people find and achieve peace

Buddhism is really interesting and there are a lot of options to choose from these days in the U.S. and Europe, not something that was true even a generation ago. There are various sects to suit your fancy. I lean more toward the philosophical angle of Buddhism, not so much the religious aspect.

There are sects that have more ritualism and some that don't have much at all. Some are very traditional and rooted in particular ethnic groups who carried it over from their native lands but there are also Buddhist groups that are very popular among Westerners.

There's a whole topic of discussion about the Westernization of Buddhism in the late 20th-early 21st century and how it represents the birth of a new style of Buddhism, much like the variations that evolved when it originally migrated out of India into other nations.
