Remains of bread around 14,500 years old have been found in Jordan:

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-science-bread/worlds-oldest-bread-found-at-prehistoric-site-in-jordan-idUSKBN1K62JB

The bread pre-dates established dates for the beginning of human agriculture, meaning it was very likely made from wild grains. And that figuring out how to make bread from grains might have helped push humans towards agriculture.

Still, even as tiny, charred remains of 14,500 year-old bread, it's better than the stale, touched-by-god-knows-who bread in weekly mormon sacrament trays!

Just don't tell mormons and other young-earth creationists that bread has been found that was baked some 8,000 years or so before they think the world was "created." They can't deal with the cog-dis. :)

14,500 bread years. That's only 3,546 people years.

Actually, nothing tastes better than the leftover touched-by-god bread on fast Sunday.

When I read the first articles which came out on this, I thought it was a wonderful story.

Thanks for posting this, Hie!

Sorry. The earth isn't that old.

Therefore the bread must be from another planet whose parts were used to form this one.

Leftover sacrament bread from Kolob was used to form the earth...now that's a new one!

Young-Earth Creationists always claim that scientific dating is inaccurate. I remember a missionary elder telling me that carbon-14 dating can't be trusted.

Oh, sure.
But myths in old books from pre-scientific people who thought their thunder god lived in the clouds -- THOSE can be trusted.
Right.

I had a fellow software engineer, very TBM, feel the need to explain the same thing to me about the inaccurate nature of radio carbon dating. I asked him "ok, then what about the layers of rock up Provo canyon (Utah) that clearly took hundreds of thousands if not millions of years to form". He paused for a second then asked me if I wanted to hit McDonalds.

I kinda had to laugh at the local coverage of this on the church's station KSL. A typo put the bread's age at 144,000 years old!

They confused it with how many pieces of bread will be saved in the second coming of H Jesus Christ.

You found his bread!

"26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.

27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” "
