With good ministering, this wouldn't happen...

Late breaking news: Dead men tell no tales. I suspected as much after Carthage.

From the story: "There were 50 people present..."

The ward clerk tallied 72. There are 401 on the rolls.

(I made my numbers up, but you get the idea!)

See, this is why I insist that RfM isn’t a waste of time.

Why did the semi-inarticulate newsmanreporterperson have to go to the Fallon Convention Center to do his on-site "report" about the shooting at the LDS church? Doesn't correct onscenevideojouralismreporting protocol dictate he is supposed to stand in front of the police tape?

fake news ?

...which is better than having your nose in the news.

One thing that both annoys and amuses me is why video reporters have to go "on scene" to report events which happened hours ago. Here is pretty talkingheadboy or sexy eyecandygirl standing in front of some place where nothing is happening, speaking breathlessly like they "just got the scoop" but the crime, accident, fire, or political announcement was over and done with HOURS ago!

So here they stand as though the actually investigated and investigated"news."

Ridiculous.

You'll just have to stick with the news from Alex Jones.

"...The alleged shooter has been identified as 48-year-old John K. Connor, who is a member of the church and had been attending services prior to the shooting."

Now it all makes sense. He killed a robot from the future to save humanity from a post-nuclear Apocalypse robot tyranny.

Evil is as evil does.

That's pretty sick. And a tragedy for the victims and their loved ones.

Very tragic. Given that the man shooting Was targeting someone specifically, I wonder if doing it at church just provided an opportunity for him, and I wonder if this has anything inherently to do with the Mormon church.

I guess time will tell.

Sad and depressing. Much as the mormon church disgusts me, this disgusts me more.

Still, I hope a member or two of that ward wonders why the bishop (or anyone else there) didn't "discern" that there was danger in the foyer, and act in advance. Breaking a shelf or two might bring something good out of this.

I find it tough to believe that people somehow believe or were taught that "power of discernment" is the same as being a psychic.
I don't recall that ever being the case.

They are the same powers in practice.

This is what happens when you ignore your prompting to stay home from church.

"power of discernment" = being a pyschic?

Close enough among the Mormons I know. Bishops, SPs, GAs, the Q; they all have a direct hot line through prayer to get a heads up on all sorts of things, including impending danger and financial advice. The rank-and-file can also pray for answers, though they may be put on hold for the next available angel.

Seriously, that's how it was explained to me over cards recently with a group of Mormon in-laws.

"Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has taught that the gift of discernment can help us “detect hidden error and evil in others..."

It's *always* been the case.
And both are equally effective (being a psychic and having the "gift of discernment") -- i.e. not at all.

Only in Mormondom would the fact that the gunman was wearing a dark blue shirt factor into the story or even be mentioned fairly early in the article.

Everyone knows good Mormons only wear white. They should have known what was up when he showed up in a dark blue shirt. It's not rocket science. Not a white shirt? Better pat 'em down.

Non-white shirts are the Mormon hoodie.

that the man shot had been assigned to watch out for this person who shot him. Then the news reporter on KSL stated that the ward was "ministering" to those affected.

There is never an excuse for violence, but the church leaders and members also need to respect boundaries, which this new ministering thing doesn't seem to be doing. It is making things worse.
