This "emotional support animal" thing is getting way out of hand.
Emotional support animals are not service animals.

Those aren't ferrets.

They are undernourished, under-loved, under-washed children.

From what I saw with 2 sets of TBM neighbors, it's under-loved and over-washed, not to mention sort of Stepford-y.

“The airline says rodents, including squirrels, are not allowed.”

The little critter needed a white shirt and a missionary name tag.

If you're going to dress 'em, you need two. One with brown slacks, the other in blue. Tiny bicycles would be good, too.

Squirrels are cute, but they are an outdoor animal. I love feeding them in my yard, but I don't want them in my house. Porch is okay.

Wild rodents often have insects in their fur that can bite and cause disease. I can understand why the airline said no. Plus I doubt it was house trained for pooping.

One of those insect-borne diseases is bubonic plague. It could have ticks and mites with Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Then there's hanta virus and rabies. And the simple issues of bite wounds and possible allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis. Face it, lady- the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

You mean plane [plain] trained.

Maybe she was it's emotional support, or drain.

Anyone too emotionally unstable to fly without a squirrel is too emotionally unstable to fly.

How do we know it wasn't the squirrel using an emotionally impaired human women to go visit his Uncle Acornbreath in Cleveland?

I'm guessing the squirrel was smarter than the woman.

Seeing eye dogs and seizure detection dogs are vital as are animals to soothe post traumatic stress. But the public deserves a little relaxation on flights without being pecked by peacocks or chattered at by squirrels. Peacock poop is very huge, ugly and smelly to just about everyone. Anyone who can't do without exotic animals for a flight needs to get a grip or just stay at home in my opinion.

I'm also concerned about allergies. Perhaps travelers need to confine support animals to certain flights and other flights could be reserved for those with pet allergies which can be very dangerous and alarming.

Sadly, the current procedure works the opposite way. If someone with allergies and someone with a support animal both end up on the same plane, it is the allergic person who is forced off.

I brought our long-haired chihuahua and our gray part-Persian cat, Sara and Pyewacket. They were only months apart in age, and had been raised together. They were like sisters.

I bought a fairly large crate and lined it with a blanket they routinely slept in. I explained to the airline people that it would be far more traumatic to separate the two than to let them share the crate.

Everything went fine except that I had the dickens of a time finding them after the flight. Their crate was not on the suitcase moving-belt. They had arrived in a completely separate building.

Once I found them, all three of us were fine.

Uh, are squirrels Cheaper than dogs? Is that how this happened? Were they paying too much tithing to afford a bigger pet or housing where they would be allowed to have a dog?

One time long ago and far away, I came upon another family. They were not allowed to have a pitt bull like all the other kids at school. They made a squirrel a pet (it acted like a little climbing dog with bad teeth)companion (like a toy poodle that would ride upon the mothers shoulder.) They lived in low income apartments nearest the prison in which their father was incarcerated, and couldn't afford feeding a dog. They hid the squirrel (from the landlord.) I remember that and a lot of bandages wrapped on them once either when something bit them. It's really true <I met them myself if they'd had more money they could've had a dog !> in the name of Jesus christ Amen.

Think of all the pets moments trails and amusement parks picnics folks had to pass on to pay a full tithe. That'd cause stress huge stress. Lucky none of us needed a squirrel instead of a dog *back when we were giving ten percent of our net income plus paying taxes union dues commuting to work fuel expense vehicle maintenance gotta fix a tooth/ tithing gotta pull a tooth out perfectly gosh darn it exhausted!

Compassion, people. Compassion, probably just couldn't afford a dog

My grandma hated squirrels. She said one of those cut her kid’s arm to shreds.

Wild animals are not pets or emotional support animals. They are wild animals who should be allowed to live free.

I love y'all, but you are missing the boat entirely on this one!
We were very poor growing up, and we sometimes would eat squirrels. My mother would fry the squirrels and make gravy. (Gross! I did not know at the time they were rodents)
The squirrel on the plane was probably the lady's dinner for later. (Lol how very Beverly Hillbillies is that?)

Ground squirrels or tree squirrels
Or do you live where they gave flying squirrels (that would be so fun)

I can see gathering the Elders to go hunting (is there a season do you need a license like a deer tag or dove season?)

Makes a whole new take on the bounty gd gave me the year we had ground squirrels burrowing under the driveway into the porch and garage ; he was supplying my families needs & I just didn’t recognize the blessing.

I should tell my husbands friend who has the sand piles along walls from gophers that are through his foundation, it’s actually a blessing friend; you ‘ ll never go hungry

As the sisters in church always said: the lord works in mysterious ways.

If I just had my ten per cent net back then I could have had Turkey I could have bought food I could have fried chicken but no; that was when I stupidly spent my money on tithing not groceries & wondered (nutientvdeficient).... instead of a affordable donation love offering at a reasonable church —
Tithing hurts good people doing the best they can. /still sulking ;(

Flying squirrels? What will people think of next?

I had to bring back a Chihuahua from Mexico....my new wife's, and it was not a pleasant ordeal. I can't imagine a support animal.

I was asked if it was a support animal--"no way" and gladly paid the $150 to bring it back. I guess anyone who brings the squirrel has no shame proudly lets the critter climb all around.

Me, the dog stayed in the carrier under the seat and even when it wanted out the last 15 minutes of the flight I was embarrassed. Lest anyone think I'm one of "those people." I know, my personal embarrassment but sheesh a squirrel??

I can't figure out how she even got that far. You have to fill out paperwork, have vet checks, have an approved for that airline carrier. She should never have gotten past the front counter let alone the gate. And I can't imagine that the squirrel would have been up for the flight. Too much noise and the vibrations.

I don't think that is right, Susan, or it didn't used to be right. When I ran into a problem--allergic kid versus person claiming dog was support--I was told the personnel couldn't even ask for proof. They had to accept the person's claim without investigation.

At one point, people could bring dang near annnnything on a plane, especially here in Seattle where dogs ride buses. I'd never seen anything like it. I would pay a fare for my dog and take him to doggie daycare before I took the train to work. So there's that.

I was sitting next to a woman whose dog was in a Burberry carry on. If the carrier fit under the seat, you could bring the dog on.

The past couple of years, airlines have been like, "Y'all gotta cut this dumb shit out."

https://www.bringfido.com/travel/us_regulations/

All pets crossing state borders, with the exception of guide dogs, are required by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to have a rabies immunization and valid health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 30 days of travel. If your pet is traveling via cargo, or if you are a breeder, dealer, or research facility transporting a dog, the health certificate should be issued no more than 10 days before departure.

But it was a six-hour flight and it just didn't seem right.

If I want to take her across the country, road trip!

As far as pups in the people part of the plane, airlines were pretty lax.
