Hey, y'all --

I've been lurking here on & off for many years because I have a special interest in cults (Mormons & JWs are my faves!), and it seems like the perfect place to ask.

You can find self-help techniques for just about everything these days, but it occurred to me today that I've never seen anything specifically for people leaving cults or people who have been brainwashed. There's one really good site, https://www.helpguide.org/, that offers ideas for a number of mental health issues, but not specifically for the issues involved in leaving a cult. A search for cult recovery self-help came up pretty much empty.

So has anyone here run across anything like that? Thanks!

I would think that anyone who is looking to be deprogrammed has already helped himself.

I think this is referring to the lingering affects of indoctrination. The feeling that something bad is going to happen because you betrayed your covenants or something similar.

Most people don't go from true believer to ex-member without bring along some emotional, mental or spiritual baggage.

Its very rare to get a clean break.

Yeah. Watch "Mr.Monk joins a cult".

Has to be one of the funniest Monk episodes ever.

Just keep reading about cults. The more knowledge, the greater truth's antiseptic qualities.

The late Walter Martin's book, "The Kingdom of the Cults," was a big help to me in the 1970s.

Time in the real world talking to people who have never been in your ex-cult.
