And how do these idiot bigots know what is "will of God?"

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ohio-gop-leader-california-fires-gods-punishment_us_5bf36356e4b0d9e7283c5f06

An Ohio county chairman for the Republican Party provoked outrage after posting a Facebook message declaring that the fires devastating parts of California are “God’s punishment” for the “liberal” state.

David Johnson, chairman of the Columbiana County GOP, posted images of the inferno Sunday with the message: “God’s Punishment to Liberal California.” Another message superimposed over a photo read: “Hell on Earth, brought to you by the liberals in California.”

It's not like the guy actually believes he knows the will of god.

He just knows that people who believe he knows the will of god will send him money for saying stuff like this.

Pretty smart.

I saw that too. I've always wondered their justification for when Hurricanes hit conservative, religious places like Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, the Carolina's etc? Or when tornadoes take out religious towns in Kansas, Oklahoma, etc. Why is god pissed at them? Ignorant bigots. There are 5,225,675 registered Republicans in CA compared to 1,970,255 in that clown's home state,Ohio. I'm sure the fire in CA didn't differentiate between parties.

There is no agenda. It's shocking and ridiculous that someone would say such a thing and is another sign that faith based hate leads people to bizarre, nonsensical conclusions.

I don't have to put words in their mouths:

Known for making inflammatory claims about the LGBTQ community, Pastor Kevin Swanson is drawing a link between California’s devastating wildfires and the state’s embrace of same-sex marriage and other pro-equality efforts.

Swanson, who is a pastor at the Reformation Church of Elizabeth, Colorado, said on his “Generations with Kevin Swanson” radio show last week that the fires ― which had killed nine people as of Monday afternoon ― were part of God’s punishment of the Golden State for “legitimizing the sin of homosexuality” in the United States.

“The first gay pride march occurred in San Francisco in 1970, and then San Francisco legitimized homosexuality in 1972,” Swanson said in his Aug. 3 broadcast, according to Right Wing Watch. “In 2005, California state legislators became the first in the nation to pass a same-sex marriage law … In 2008, the California Supreme Court then struck down Prop 22 in regard to marriage cases, and Prop 8 also was struck down later on that year, I believe.”

Here's a law of nature. Every hardship and problem among humans is ALWAYS explained as a human failing bringing on punishment from from a God.

Anyone who reads such tripe is wasting their time and demeaning those multitudes who see through them and the foolish punishment accusations.

Hurricane Hugo hit when I was growing up. I don't remember ever hearing that it was caused by "sin."

I do remember my mother's aunt saying "It's those Russian satellites! They're controlling the weather!" Ha.

Just an awful thought by those so-called Christians.

Yes, she lived in California more than half her life but she is not liberal but quite conservative, and devote Christian, in fact, and not just in word but action. She didn't deserve to be 'punished' for anything. She survived and had most of her financial losses insured ,but it was still very traumatic and I don't think she'll ever be the same. Even her living situation has changed - moved to a retirement center from a single-family home.

I remember my very-mormon auntie told me that the 1994 Northridge earthquake (Los Angeles area) was caused by hard core pornography because that area was where most of it was produced
Ugg. I can't believe I stopped and kind of believed her.

This has been going on for over a hundred years.

When the Great San Francisco fire and earthquake destroyed much of the city in 1906, there were plenty of preachers who claimed it was God punishing the sinful city.

One small area of downtown was spared, which included the warehouses of the Hotaling Whisky Company (buildings which still stand today).

Soon the ditty was going around:
"If, as they say, God burned the town
For being over-frisky,
Why did He burn the churches down
And spare Hotaling's Whisky?"

As religious historian Karen Armstrong joked, what's the point of religion if you can't use it to condemn others?

I suppose the Florida panhandle, a very religious area, and also the location of the massive LDS Inc tree farm, took a direct hit from a hurricane a couple months ago because somebody called LDS Inc the Mormon Church, and made Jesus cry.

The idiot chairman needs to learn a few facts before he opens up his fat pie hole. CA is blue because most of its population lives by the coast. The interior of the state is red, often deeply so. (See "State of Jefferson.")

Paradise is located within CA's 1st Congressional District. That CD has been represented since 2012 by Doug LaMalfa, a Republican who recently won re-election by a 56-44 margin. It's safe to conclude that a majority of people who lost life and property were also Republicans, and therefore (per idiot chairman) that god allowed good Republicans to die due to sins of liberals (read Democrats).

Unfortunately, there will always be petty, mean-spirited jerks. Feel sorry for the people who have to live with him.

Thank goodness that the conservative atheists are around. If not for the conservative atheists god would have no choice but to Sodom and Gomorrah this whole planet.

"Right-wing “journalist” and Trump–worshiping conspiracy theorist Liz Crokin appeared on “The McFiles” program last night, where she and host Chris McDonald alleged that the wildfires that are currently ravaging California were set intentionally in order to destroy evidence that those in the entertainment industry are engaged in widespread pedophilia.

Crokin singled out actor Rainn Wilson, who was among the celebrities who had to evacuate their homes as the fire approached Malibu.

“This man, I started doing some research on him,” Crokin said. “Guess what? He’s involved with a charity in Haiti. Any celebrity that is involved with ‘work’ in Haiti, you had better believe they’re involved in child sex trafficking, okay? So the guy who openly talks about cannibalism, eating babies, and raping babies and who just happens to be involved in a charity that allegedly helps kids in Haiti; now Rainn, ironically—not ironically—guess what? His house is one of the houses that was burned down the other day. Guess what? A lot of people who are up to their eyeballs in child sex trafficking have had their homes burn down. Burning evidence much? I don’t think it’s a coincidence.”

A few years ago lightning started a wildfire near Pateros, WA a town of about 665. The Carlton fire burnt 90+ houses and a business, a smaller version of Camp fire.

An ultra conservative friend had friends in the area and sent out a message about the fire and stated that only Devine intervention could control the situation.

I knew enough of the area and the anti government attitude of the people and the area to be able to stick my foot in my mouth.

I replied back to my friend reminding him that the fire was started by lightning a natural God initiate situation. Maybe the fire was something along the lines of Sodom and Gomorrah, and God needed to do some thinning of the herd.

I was admonished for not being very Christian and caring for God's children.

Fortunately no one was killed, but most didn't have fire insurance. The locals were upset that either the state or federal government would only provide low cost loans to rebuild but not any no cost grants.
