I recently found out that, according to Family Search, the LDS genealogy website, I am a direct descendant of Hyrum Smith. Our tree has never been linked to him before. I'm trying to find out if this was just a simple "sealing," or if he really was the biological father of my ancestor. I can't find any information as to whether he really did father children from any of his extra wives, other than Mary Fielding and Jerusha. Of course, no one has proved that Joseph fathered children from any of his extra wives, but what about Hyrum? Any information about Hyrum is appreciated.

He had at leas 2 plural wives.

I don't know about children with them. They Married in 1843.

I'm descended from Jesse N who was baptized by his cousin Hyrum.

Not many of us Smiths in the Brighamite branch who aren't descended through Hyrum I must say.

The LDS website lists 44 wives for Hyrum, some born years before Hyrum, and even some children born after his death. I wonder if I will ever know the truth. It reminds me of the claims that Sally Hemmings was mother to Thomas Jefferson's children, which was finally proven to be true. But I can't think of a way to find out if Hulda Judd actually had a child with Hyrum, or if it was just a "spiritual" relationship. Not that I am anxious to have descended from the Smith family, just curious. Thanks for the replies.
