That said, this is how the DailyMail identified his being Mormon

they would have simply reported that he is a "Mormon".

Now in their confused effort to respect the wishes of the Nelson, they have to use an additional 19 superfluous words...and still managed to get it wrong.

Way to go Nelson. You've done an amazing job of accomplishing nothing.

At a nearby university they are doing a lecture series on exactly that - "Latter Day Saint movement of Restorationist Christianity, the followers of which are commonly known as Mormons". DW saw it in the paper and and asked if I wanted to go. I said I may see if I can meet with the lecturer prior and discuss what she plans on speaking. I have no desire to attend otherwise. Something is going on. This dropping the name Mormon is creating some interesting and unintended results.

It seems rather like a queer term to me.

But I like it. :)

You can be sure the church's attorneys are deciding RIGHT NOW if they need to sue someone for using that language. And yes, I agree that they are saying that with tongue in cheek.

Don't you love it when the Mormons and Mormon-pleasers stumble all over themselves, and end up using the word "Mormon" in the explanation, anyway?

I don't think the article was deliberately mocking the Mormons. Mormons are just stupid, that's all.

It's been the same fiasco of constantly explaining that the MoTab was "formerly the Mormon Tabernacle Choir." They still use that dreaded M-word, but, at the same time, they want to advertise and sell recordings. What to do....
