Happy Groundhog Day ! (Deja vu ?) ;-0)

"On Saturday morning, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow and predicted an early spring.

Legend has it if a furry rodent casts a shadow on Groundhog Day, Feb. 2, expect six more weeks of winter-like weather. If not, expect spring-like temperatures.

In reality, Phil’s prediction is decided ahead of time by the group on Gobbler’s Knob, a tiny hill just outside of Punxsutawney. That’s about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Records dating to 1887 show Phil predicting more winter 102 times while forecasting an early spring just 19 times. No records exist for the remaining years.

I'm sure that an early spring would be welcome to many people, but given our current weather in the mid-Atlantic, I'm just not seeing it. Maryland is trending toward a harsher winter which we do get periodically. I think we're more than overdue for a good, old-fashioned blizzard.

After this last round of brutal cold weather this past week this gal prays Phil is right and there is an EARLY Spring.

We've had by and large an El Nino winter until the Polar Vortex hit this week. El Nino winters have been happening with more frequency in the snow belt just in the past twenty years, with the rise of global warming. In recent past we've been getting more polar vortexes with extreme cold. They're more likely to occur during a La Nina winter rather than the El Nino winters.

Just like other prophets, Phil is usually wrong.

Pretty much. Where I live, the local groundhog (in other words, woodchuck) saw his.

So our "forecast" is different.

When you were TBM, did you feel like you were living the same Sunday over and over and over?

How time flies when you're having fun !

How nice. Post is so (NOT) essential to recovery from Mormonism. Again! No wonder TBM's can find RFM a bit ....

I can't see the movie, Hockeyrat. The clip is empty on this side of the screen for some reason.

Was/is it Ground Hog Day? Or somethin else? :)

Nah, it was just a picture of a groundhog.
I wouldn’t mind the job of holding the groundhog up, they look kind of heavy, almost like a fat cat.

The Canadian varmint weather "experts" had diametrically opposed views on the subject. 2 predicted an early thaw and one said more cold and misery. FYI.

If Phil would hire Mormon apologists, they could twist the definitions of “shadow,” “see,” and “early spring” to prove that he’s always right.

Our local paper had a funny cartoon about this. It showed the Orange One popping up from a groundhog hole, and the caption said, "If he doesn't see a Wall when he appears, there will be another shutdown for several weeks."

Well, the shutdown per se wasn't funny at all, and I hope it doesn't happen again, or we may lose Federal employees. But I got a kick out of the humor in the cartoon. It made me think of Steve Benson.
