A member of the ward where alleged sex trafficker David Moss was bishop laments the non-satisfactory nature of how it went down for the ward, relating that the stake knew about the allegations at least on Feb. 14, when Moss was first hauled in to the police but not charged. He continued to be bishop right up to the time he was formally arrested and charged. The ward members wondered how it would be addressed in church; certainly there would be some kind of instructions given, some help or counseling offered by the church. Although security was high at church, and ward members was warned not to record anything, all the church did was release Moss and his counselors, and call a new bishopric. Each member of the new bishopric stood and gave his mandatory testimony, and--Bob's yer uncle--it was all done. That's how the church addressed it, i.e., apparently by not addressing it.

example of, one, even Russell M Nelson by ignoring all survivors of sexual abuse, even when hundreds march to his office doorstep to protest. Disgusting!

It wouldn't do to have even a whiff of the notion that all is not well in Happy Valley.

I read that when Moss was released, confirming vote was requested to sustain the motion. His A2 counselors that were then released and the congregation was asked to give them a show of appreciation at by raising the arm for the square.

The old first counselor became the new bishop and the old second counselor became the new first counselor. These two men then spoke and then the very somber, almost apologetic, stake president dismissed the ward; there was no second hour.

One assumes that the second hour dismissal was to keep the members up from sitting around and gossiping in the various classrooms and the foyer.

Good stuff!!

Bishop who?

Not hard to imagine a conversation like the following between a 10-year-old kid and his mom:

"Mom, what happened to Bishop Moss?"

"Bishop who?"

"Bishop Moss. Why isn't he bishop anymore?"

"That's just how it is. The bishops are changed every so often."

"Did Bishop Moss do something bad?"

"Bishop who? Oh! Look! Billy, you scuffed your shoes again. How many times do I have to tell you, don't scuff your shoes. And is that a cheerio in your hair? How many times do I have to tell you not to get cheerios in your hair. Let's go find your dad and see if we can go get some lunch...."

In a church I'm familiar with, a prominent person was arrested for crimes of a sexual nature. Won't go into details.

However, the pastor this particular church addressed the situation head on.

A letter was written to the congregation making references without details to the arrest. It was acknowledged that members were heart-broken by the incident but that the church had no obligations to the individual except to pray for him to confront and deal with his problems. No blaming, no justifying, no ignoring, no sweeping under the rug, just: it's his problem and we hope he is able to do the right thing.

Since 1830 the Church has been hiding the transgressions of its leaders, except of course when they spoke out against JS.

Did they release him "with a vote of thanks"?

What's funny is that they just shoulder on as before, with their Priesthood and its magical powers and discernment. "The last guy who held this position was a pimp. And a pimp had stewardship over all of you. But there's nothing amiss in the very concept of restored priesthood..."

That's how Jesus church takes care of business. Out with the accused and in with new slave drivers.
