If anyone needs to be silenced, it's Chicken Little. She's leading thousands of Mormons into foolish financial decisions by tapping into their eschatological fears.

I guess if it doesn't hurt LDS, Inc.'s bottom line, you can say whatever crazy shit you want.

Probably because it gives the canneries and food storage companies more business by catering to this form of paranoia.

crazy s**t.

Secondly, the morg has never entirely disavowed its millennialist roots. Which is why it won't now.

Perhaps when they stop letting individuals say over the pulpit that "the Second Coming will occur while members of *this* generation are still alive," then they'll crack down on that stuff. But never before.

The DJIA is up 1.5% today.
Those silly wall street brokers just aren't cooperating with the end of the world economic collapse. What's wrong with them?? :)
This was all supposed to start 2 days ago. Oops.

In Mormonism there are really only two excommunicable crimes. One is to break the tribe's sexual taboos (and this only applies to females). The other is to criticize the top dogs. Julie Rowe did neither.

It really is all about control by the Alpha males over the herd. The Alpha males decide who gets access to females and resources. That is all there is to Mormonism.

“The Alpha males decide who gets access to females and resources. That is all there is to Mormonism.”

You make them sound like a troupe of baboons. You may be right about polygamous Mormonism, but times have changed. In fact, Mormon women have been forced to lower their standards due to guys leaving the church. A non-alpha has a decent chance with them if he can stomach their religion.

Simple. Unlike Kate Kelly or John Dehlin, Julie Rowe does not push for change in the church nor criticizes the thin-skinned brethren. She worships them as heros, and I'm sure the brethren love the hero worship from her and her loony followers. Plus, the brethren are likely enjoying the sudden boost in tithing revenue from the batshit-crazy preppers cashing in their 401(k)s.

Because she's mentally ill, and pushes half their agenda for them.

She's a win win for them. Bringing in a bit more prepper $$... AND, when the world doesn't end, they can say she was just a mistaken woman. (See? This is why women shouldn't be given the responsibility of the priesthood, etc.)

What is she going to do in a week, when none of her prophesied calamities occur, and the idiots who believed her realize they spent all kinds of money "prepping" for nothing?

Will the church then ex her because of "false prophecy?"

Maybe.
Or just backpedaling, and trying to explain away the failure of her prophecies, which were supposed to start coming true on the 13th...oops.

She also keeps the level of dependence high. Makes the morgbots feel like they need to stick together with other people that know the truth. She leaves a nice opening for the 15 to publicly shame the members at GC - if they were righteous, then JC would come back.

Maybe they don't want to cause a schism, with her believers becoming angry and resentful of the church for attacking her. Better to let the thing burn out.

When the Rowe-Bots crawl out of their bunkers on October 1 they will look at each other and shrug,

"wrong Year?"

Just like every other dooms day cult, string them along. Mormons are just vulnerable to this sort of thing. I remember 2 ~ 3 decades ago the pyramid schemes rampant in Utah. The Faithful were bilked out of their life savings because their faith and prayers confirmed bilking was good.

*edit*
In our 5th sunday discussion and our stake conf. both emphasized the imminent Coming of Jesus so get your house in order...

The Cult screws are tightening.

Has she broken any of the rules of YSCC?

If not, then your question is redundant.

according to her wikipedia page, Rowe's books were included on a list of "spurious materials" that was given to seminary and institute classes in AUGUST 2015

>"Although Sister Rowe is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her book is not endorsed by the church and should not be recommended to students or used as a resource in teaching them. The experiences she shares are her own personal experiences and do not necessarily reflect Church doctrine or they may distort Church doctrine."

So at the very same time axeldc was griping about "no consequences for Julia Rowe", LDSinc had already slapped her wrist.

I swear, people on this website are often just bitter and looking for something to gripe about

"often just bitter"

"Bitter" being a favored meme of the junior mopologist, who being rhetorically inept, attempts to discredit his opponent with diversionary ad hominem slurs.

One thing Mormonism stands for is the proposition that there are good frauds and there are bad frauds.

Julie rowe's fraud is close enough to the former to merit tolerance. For the last thing the church wants is for people to consider the possibility that American apocalypticism is a lie.

Never knew about Julie but she is either manic and gets on her keyboard during episodes or,she is simply a con artist knowing how to get food storage nutters to buy her books . I read the comments on Goodreads and its either " she is wundddderful " or "she is a con artist and I only listen to the brethren " Talk about how gullible most Mormons are
