If they are admitting it, it's probably been around for at least ten years. I have heard rumors of this for a while, and no, not from schizophrenics. But it does raise the possibility that religious experience can be faked in an individual without them knowing it, or to "gaslight" them.

What's my paranoia? There are evil people in this world who will use technology for their own ends. I have lost count of the number of times someone or something has promised me something and not delivered...

When we developed microphones, we used them to listen into people ee didn't like. When we developed satellites, we used them to photograph countries we didn't like. When we developed drones, we used them to watch marches of people we didn't like... And so on. Then along came the internet, facial recognition software, phone tracking and it has all been abused openly.

I remember the WWW twenty years ago. It was using for finding things out. Now it's useless for that, and useful for finding things out about you.

If I told people thirty years ago that people today would knowingly install listening devices in their homes, willingly add themselves to facial recognition software and to hand over DNA to become part of a database... Then I would be called a kook. Yet all of these are regular things now.

But as it happens, I'm not overly worried about this tech in comparison to others, but it is part of a wider trend. Mind reading technology has been in development for a while - if that ever gets perfection, then there is a lot of cause for concern.

It will be all great when it happens to other people, but not on the receiving end. Let's look at each of those accusations in turn. You accuse me of "profiling" and yet it is you who keep acting as if all Muslims are alike and insisting that people fit into "races." When I was growing up, it was painfully obvious when people were talking to themselves on the street. Now I see it regularly, and just presume people are on their phones, some of which are barely visible.

As another aside, people who talk to themselves is a sign of a healthy mind.
